Note: A YOUTH CRUSHED BY A TREE - SINGULAR ACCIDENT - An inquest was held on the 8th of February at the "Marquis of Granby", Greenhill, on the body of James Bodimeade, who lived at that Inn, where he was employed; from the evidence of his uncle, Joseph Bodimeade, it appeared that he youth, who was 18 years of age, was present at the spot when some felled trees were being drawn out from the from garden of Mr Foulger's premises, one tree lay across another on the ground, and the uncle having attached some horses to the upper tree proceeded to draw it away whilst the nephew was standing beside the trees, instead of the upper tree being drawn off the other, the movement caused the under tree to revolve, and it knocked down and rolled over the youth whose attention had been directed to his uncle's proceedings. The uncle immediately checked the horses which were stopped before the tree had entirely rolled over; the body of the young man being immediately released by standards, he got up himself, and was found to be sensible; so aware of his danger was he, that he said that it was "all over" with him. Assistance of two neighbouring sugreons was forthwith procured, but such sever internal injuries had been sustained that Bodimeade died on the next day after the accident, viz., the 4th of February. A more remarkable accident is seldom recorded.
