Clare Lawrence-Wills

Clare Lawrence-Wills trained at the Purcell School of Music, National Youth Orchestra and gained a degree in Music from the University of Cambridge. She was awarded a scholarship to study the oboe at the Royal Academy of Music as a postgraduate after which she was appointed to play the cor anglais with the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra in Chile.

In 2011, Clare decided to train as a teacher at Durham University and she now teaches music at Egglescliffe School as well as working as an oboist and choral conductor. Clare conducts the choirs at Egglescliffe and has gained national recognition with the senior chamber choir in the Music For Youth Festival where they were awarded the ‘Achievement in Performance’ award in 2013 and 2014, as well as being selected to perform in the Royal Albert Hall at the schools prom in November 2014.

Clare is currently the assistant conductor for the Northern Spirit Singers, who were awarded Adult choir of the Year in the ‘2014 Choir of the Year’ competition, and she will take on the musical director role with Durham University Choral Society from October 2015. Alongside this, she is the principal conductor of the Teesside Apollo Male Voice Choir and the assistant conductor of Durham Choral Society, and has starred as a guest conductor with many local chamber choirs.
