National and University Scholarships
Home and EU candidates may apply for funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, which funds Doctoral study across all fields in this broad subject area. The Durham Doctoral Studentship Scheme provides fees and a maintenance grant for outstanding doctoral candidates across all subjects. Further details on all these sources of funding can be found here.
In addition to these sources of funding, there are a number of fellowships specific to those studying in Theology and Religion at Durham, including the Barry Scholarship, Lindsay Scholarship and Borderlands Bursaries, which are awarded by St John’s College.
To apply for Durham Doctoral Studentships and/or AHRC funding applicants should declare their interest in the ‘How do you expect to pay your fees’ question on the online application form. Alternatively, applicants may contact the department directly to express their interest.
Information on future rounds of these scholarships will be posted when it becomes available.
A variety of sources exist, and the University has a basic Funding Database where you can search for these. For international students the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships can be a significant source of funds, but you must apply early.
