Message from the MCR President
Collingwood MCR continues to be an active community within college, growing in strength each year. Many postgraduates have attended college events and continue to be actively involved in many sports and societies.
In Michaelmas term, MCR member and TEDxTeen speaker, David Saddington, gave a talk on his climate change and environmental work at an SCR dinner. We also held an informal postgraduate applications talk for Collingwood undergraduate students interested in applying for postgraduate studies who wished to know more about the applications process and funding. First term was rounded off in style, with our annual MCR Christmas meal at the Bishop Langley, Durham.
During Ephiphany term, the MCR Exec organised an extremely popular (and over-subscribed!) 'Great Gatsby' themed inter-MCR Formal. The evening was a resounding success with over two hundred guests from Collingwood and other colleges. Music was played during the delicious four-course dinner by talented music fresher Adam Laughton. The evening ended in the bar with 'Grollingwood' Big Band playing jazz classics until late! We also held an multi-disciplinary mini-conference with postgraduate presenters from Grey, Josephine Butler and Usntinov colleges, chaired by myself and the other MCR Presidents. There were various Collingwood presenters and two winners, Lizzie Downes and Nikki Rutter. Congratulations to all who took part!
In Easter term we held an MCR Whisky Tasting evening in college, welcoming back former MCR President and whisky enthusiast Simon Walton. The evening was well attended and enjoyed by all.
I continue to attend university-wide meetings representing Collingwood MCR. At MCR President's Committee, I have helped organise inter-MCR summer trips to Whitby and Lindisfarne, an Induction Week review and contributed to the 2015 Postgraduate Report. We also look forward to the biggest inter-MCR event of the year, the Postgraduate Ball, held at our very own and much loved World Heritage Site, Durham Castle.
We are currently making extensive preparations for the 2015 Induction Week for our incoming postgraduates (2015/6) and handing over to a brand new MCR Exec for the coming academic year.
