Did you know you don’t have to be an ordinand to live and study at Cranmer Hall? We have a special type of student, called a CUG (Cranmer Undergraduate). You can come to Cranmer at 18, and live in St John’s College, and have a wonderful experience as a Durham University student doing a degree in Theology and Ministry.

Two of our CUGs reflect on their experience…

Nat is 18 and arrived here last October: Being a CUG is pretty great – There is a lot of flexibility as a Cranmer undergrad whatever your church tradition. You can do as little or as much as you want with the Ordinands; who are a very welcoming bunch. You get a huge choice of modules both within Cranmer and with the university department, this means you can do subjects that interest you, challenge and stimulate your learning. As we are part of a confessional community, there is a strong sense of accountability and deep relationships that forms very quickly; expect to grow in your personal faith. Cranmer is what you make of it is an undergraduate and because you’re also a member of St John’s College and the wider university, the opportunities – socially, sporting, musically… are endless.

Amy is in her 3rd year:The lovely thing about studying at Cranmer is that theology is a living thing. So God is an integral part of the learning and community experience; but also, we get to ask the ‘so what?’ question.

The Bible says this: so what? 20430
This happened in the Church: so what?
God did this: so what?

As a diverse community from all sorts of backgrounds and traditions, our answers vary; but perhaps a deeper understanding of God can also be found in the process of our conversation.
