Gigs and Festivals
Folksoc is trying to bring more gigs to Durham with local folk bands. Thus far we have hosted one gig, with
Blackbeard's Tea Party, a truly brilliant band from York who have shot to fame in recent years. We are always
on the lookout for potential bands, so keep an eye out for more Folksoc gigs.

IVFDF
The Inter-Varsity Folk Dance Festival (pronounced If-Diff or Iv-Div) is held each year in late February/early
march by a different university. Last year it was in Sheffield, and in 2010 it was organised by the dedicated
bunch at our very own university. You can expect a huge variety of workshops, ceilidhs, display dances, gigs
and an enormous morris tour of the city, all in the company of hundreds of other folky students.
At £18 for a weekend ticket you won't find a cheaper festival. It's great fun and it makes a nice break from the
trials and tribulations of studying! There is always a bunch of us going, and often Folksoc is generous enough to
subsidise transport costs... Click here to find out more about
IVFDF 2019, which will be hosted by the University of Edinburgh.
