Durham Go Club

Durham Go Tournament 2014 will take place on the 14th-15th June on Palace Green, Durham. Please register now!

We are a friendly club devoted to the playing of the board game Go (also known as Weiqi and Baduk).

We meet weekly on Monday and Thursday evenings, variously in a pub, college bar, or in University lecture theatres. Our regular sessions run throughout the year (including during the vacations) and we also run a number of other events, such as tournaments and BBQs.

Our meetings page gives more details about when and where we're currently meeting, and if you sign up to our mailing list (see below) then we'll send you regular emails to let you know what's happening. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to email us, or see our FAQ!

Everyone - from complete beginners to experts - is very welcome to come along to our sessions. While we are affiliated to the Durham Students' Union we are not purely a student club; anyone is welcome to come and play.

Mailing list

The Go Club has two mailing lists - one for during term time (when most of our members are around), and one for the vacations (when the club is rather smaller).

To sign up for our main mailing list, enter your email address below and click on the button

If you're around during the vacation and want to come along, you can also sign up to our vacation mailing list.

Choi Hyounggyu (4 dan, Durham) plays Matthew Holton (2 dan, Teesside) at a North-East Go session/social.

What is Go?

Good question. If you know nothing of the game, where should you start? You've got several options. To start with, our links page has several places where you can find out more about Go and to learn the rules.

Alternatively, if you're in Durham, why not come along to one of our sessions? Go is easy to learn, and we're always happy to teach new beginners. If you're not in Durham, the British Go Association has a list of other clubs.
