Durham University Motor Sport Society organises events from informal indoor karting through to Durham’s entry into inter-university competitions. We are extremely lucky to have two outdoor circuits of over 1km in length, located in Sunderland and Middlesbrough,
to which the society frequently organises karting sessions at.
Whether your a seasoned professional, starting out in karting or you just want some more adrenaline than your lectures give you, DUMSS can offer you whatever your after.
The society runs an internal club championship over 4 rounds, raced on Wednesdays throughout the year. The club works hard to negotiate special prices, which are typically around £30 for a full afternoon’s racing with transport and safety gear both included. All members are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. Further to this a trophy is offered for best novice each season! Why wouldn't you want to win a trophy?
The Society is always welcoming to new drivers and the societies active social side includes nights out in Durham, meeting up with other kart clubs and potentially even a European karting trip! There is a fantastic team spirit through both the race team and club in general, which attracts a diverse range of students including postgraduates and international students. We are also able to offer help and advice to those wishing to own their own race kart, with good opportunities to race locally through the Tyne and Wear Kart Club.
If you are seriously interested in competitive racing and trips to 'arrive and drive' just doesn't do it to you, check out BUKC above and see if you have what it takes to race in the British University Karting Championship.
The Championship in 2015 consists of 2 qualifiers followed by 8 national rounds spread over 6 race days between November 2014 and the end of March 2015.
In addition 3 separate test days are laid on before the regional qualifiers for drivers to familiarise themselves with the power and the handling of the karts. After Christmas there is one test day to get back in the zone before the remainder of the championship.
