On Friday 13 September 2013 the University honoured the outstanding achievements of women and men whose thoughtful scholarship and outstanding integrity has changed both our world, and the way we understand our place in it.

17 prominent scholars and intellectuals were recognised including: Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, classicist Professor Mary Beard, inventor of the world wide web Professor Sir Tim Berners-Lee, anthropologist Professor Dame Marilyn Strathern, and the philosopher and Professor Nancy Cartwright.

Southern Methodist University

Nancy Cartwright, considered one of the most important and influential contemporary philosophers of science, will receive an honourary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU) during the university’s commencement ceremony May 12, 2012.

Prof Nancy Cartwright honoured by National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan

Prof Nancy Cartwright has been appointed as Tsing Hua Honorary Distinguished Chair Professor at the National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. The duration of the appointment is from 1st August 2014 until 31st July 2017. The award was presented to Prof Cartwright during her 70th Birthday Conference at St Mary’s College in June 2014 by Szu-Ting Chen from National Tsing Hua University who is also one of her former PhD students.
