The research team have arrived safely in Kathmandu and are currently undergoing preparations for fieldwork. Once the slope monitoring instrumentation has been installed at the 10 identified field sites, automatic measurement and data streaming (also known as telemetry) recording at 10 minute intervals will go live. Data will include:

  • ground crack opening (±2mm resolution) from an extensometer.
  • Slope-scale seismicity recorded by high-precision 3-axis accelerometers;
  • derivative values of the above: periodic maximum, minimum and mean to capture slope response to continuing seismicity, in addition to adding directional information to the extensometer data.
  • Precipitation measurements (0.20mm resolution) using tipping-bucket rain gauges.
