Stanage Edge [53 20 50 N, 1 38 0 W] is a 6 kilometre escarpment of millstone grit on the eastern edge of the Peak District. The track along the top is superb walk, while the rock face below is hugely popular with rock climbers.

The gritstone is splendidly “grippy” and ideal for scrambling (or climbing of course). This brings back fond memories of scrambling over Brimham Rocks while growing up in Ripon.

A reminder of industries past: abandoned millstone forms at the bottom of the escarpment.
