Pictures from the 6th Alpine Conference on Solid-State NMR held in September in Chamonix-Mont Blanc.

Views of Terminal 5 at Heathrow.  British Airways have consolidated their flights onto this new terminal, moving out of the increasingly shabby Terminals 1/2 (which are due to be demolished and rebuilt).  A much better experience on the journey out, the return was less impressive with huge queues at the security check.  It’s still hard to beat Schipol as a hub.

Hotel de ville, Chamonix.

Views towards Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps and Western Europe.  The perspective is rather deceptive – this is a serious mountain!

A slot machine hall (machines à  sous) looks so much classier in French and with ivy growing up the building!  Vegas this isn’t…

The Durham and St. Andrews NMR groups (plus guests) at a restaurant following the conference.

Staying an extra night, we moved out of the conference-booked hotel, le Prieuré (where I’d found the beds a bit on the hard side) to the oddly named hotel Gourmets et Italy.  The rooms here were small, but cosy and good value.  The staff were helpful and the bed was perhaps the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in.  Thoroughly recommended.
