(L) The Victorian North Bridge on the right was on the main route between Leeds and Halifax. It is now dwarfed by a striking pair of flyovers dating from 1973. (R) An extraordinary Lego model of Dean Clough, once one of the world’s largest carpet factories.

Washington Old Hall

  

The manor house of Washington Old Hall (NT) is the ancestral home of George Washington, and so a place of pilgrimage for many Americans (provided they don’t get lost in the nightmare that is Washington new town).
