The first set of pictures from a holiday in the Austrian city of Innsbruck.

The Tyrol panaroma is a giant circular painting depicting the 3rd battle of Bergisel between Napoleonic armies and the Tyrolean rebels.

Bergisel, to the south of Innsbruck, is also home to Innsbruck ski jump stadium, which has twice been used for Winter Olympics. The current jump dates from 2003 and was designed by Zaha Hadid (who died in March this year).

Alpenzoo

The Hungerburgbahn is a funicular railway leading up from Innsbruck to Hungerburg, passing (here) a station for the Alpenzoo.

(L) A mountain hare and (R) a young ibex(?) at the Alpenzoo.

The bearded vulture shared an enclosure with marmots, who obviously had worked out that the vulture was not a threat, unlike the neighbouring golden eagles!
