Chirk Castle

  

(L) The impressive outer walls and (R) the courtyard of Chirk Castle (National Trust), which dates from 1295.

The fascinating Victorian laundry. It was commonly believed that it was much healthier  to dry clothes in country air (understandable perhaps given state of pollution in Victorian cities), and so grand families would have their clothes packed off by train for laundering in their country estates!
