Professor Joe Painter (Principal Investigator)

Joe is Professor of Geography at Durham University and leads the PUrSI research project. He is responsible for the research on meeting needs through community provision and for coordinating the research on Newcastle upon Tyne. More about Joe.

Dr Sue Lewis (Senior Research Associate)

Sue is PUrSI’s senior researcher. A social anthropologist by background, her PUrSI responsibilities include project management, fieldwork in Newcastle upon Tyne, data management and data analysis, event organisation, and stake-holder and public dissemination. More about Sue.

Dr Paul Langley (Co-Investigator)

Paul is Reader in Economic Geography at Durham University. He is responsible for the research on generating resources through alternative finance. More about Paul.

Dr Colin McFarlane (Co-Investigator)

Colin is Reader in Geography at Durham University. He is responsible for coordinating the research on Berlin. Colin will also guide the comparative data analysis and lead the development of the project’s non-academic impact. More about Colin.

Dr Antonis Vradis (Co-Investigator)

Antonis is a Lecturer and Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellow in Geography at Loughborough University. He is responsible for the research on harnessing energy through grassroots mobilisation. Antonis will also coordinate the research in Athens. More about Antonis.

Eris Williams Reed (Administrator)

Eris is PUrSI’s administrator. Her PUrSI responsibilities include supporting the research team with their fieldwork planning and curating the project’s website, social media presence and database. She is also currently studying for a PhD in Classics. More about Eris.
