Souls of the North (Performance, 10th November)

After a sellout performance in September, we’re proud to return with another free Souls of the North show, featuring medieval and Renaissance music, dancing and drama with a deathly twist. Come to the Great Hall, Durham Castle on 10th November at 20.00 – if you dare!

Souls of the North presents now-neglected traditions from the North of England and Scotland that imagine or challenge death, celebrate the dead, and that were once popular throughout the region before the advent of modern and commercialised Halloween.

This spectacle will include:

  • a death-and-resurrection play with an intimidating array of personalities
  • live music from Scotland and England’s North, such as soul cake songs and the Lyke Wake Dirge
  • a depiction of early dance
  • traditional poems and and ballads
  • rarely-seen instruments performed by specialists in early music

The production is directed by Lieven Baert, a professional choreographer from Ghent.

Everyone is welcome to Durham Castle Great Hall for what promises to be an excellent evening of entertainment. The show lasts for approximately one hour.

Tickets are free but to help us judge numbers please let us know you are coming via Eventbrite.

  1. Vorrei che fosse inserito in link qualche testo anglo_normanno come La Seinte Rrsurrecion di cui mi occupo dal dottorato.
