Officers swoop on young drinkers
Teenager with alcohol bottle
The children must attend alcohol awareness classes
Sixteen children were stopped by police over the weekend as part of an operation to tackle the problem of underage drinking in a Shropshire town.

Police in Bridgnorth said they found one 12-year-old drinking alcohol and a 14-year-old girl who was so drunk she could hardly stand.

All the youngsters were taken home to their parents and must now attend alcohol education classes.

Police said "Operation Hyde" would be continuing for several months.

All the children were stopped either for possessing alcohol or for being drunk.

Officers in uniform and plain clothes also seized alcohol including a variety of spirits, cider and lager.
