Volunteering

SCA with text

At Stevo, we’re really proud of how our students get involved in the local community by volunteering on various projects throughout their time at University. Student Community Action (SCA) is one of the best ways to get into student volunteering and they have such a wide variety of projects available that you’re bound to find the perfect one for you! SCA is the universities largest student-led volunteering organisation and with many projects based near Queen’s Campus and Durham City it’s up to you what you get involved in.

(Don’t forget you can get the X12 bus for free with your campus card to travel between campuses!)

.

SCA is holding the community project fairs on Wednesday 14th and 21st October from 2pm to 5pm on the upper rotunda of the Holliday Building, come along to meet the project leaders and find out more about the projects – everything from working with children or older people to gardening and dog walking! You can also have a look at SCA’s website (www.scadurham.ac.uk) for more information on how to get involved!

As well as all of the opportunities available to students university-wide through SCA, Stephenson College has developed its own project.

The Stephenson Primary Readers project is a volunteering scheme where students from Stephenson go to local primary schools several times a term to read with children. These pupils may need more support with their reading to catch up with their peers, or this may be just to encourage enjoyment of reading. Sign-up for this project can be found at the Stephenson JCR Freshers’ Fair in Freshers’ Week.
