Hello and welcome to the Stephenson College football page.

Football at Stevo is a great opportunity to get involved with the JCR, as well as to meet new people whilst doing something you love. We currently have 4 teams (A, B, C and D). Having so many teams allows even more of you to get involved! Teams have varying abilities so if you’re the next Leo Messi or just enjoy playing socially there is a place for you here at Stevo.

In 2014/15, our A team were successfully promoted to the Premiership from Division 1, only narrowly missing out on the league title. The team scored an astonishing 64 goals during the season, with the title agonisingly 1 point from reach. Since then the team have shot to success, taking home the title of winners of the Floodlit Cup and finishing second in the Premiership with the winners only taking a 3 point lead.

The B team had to settle for a season of consolidation in Division 1, finishing in mid-table. But maybe you are the person to help lead them to victory?

The C team fought admirably to maintain their position in Division 2 last season, and managed to finish mid-table. The C’s will be hoping for another steady season and potentially a promotion push in 2016/17.

New for 2016/17 is the D team, captained by our very own Communications Officer, Jack Dickety. The introduction of this team is exciting as it allows more of you to join in and get involved.

Each team usually has one training session per week and one match on a Saturday or a Sunday afternoon – either an away game on Durham’s state-of-the-art 4G pitches, or a home game on Stockton’s grass pitches.

As mentioned earlier, being part of Stevo football is much more than 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. It’s a great way to meet friends and can take the pressure off in times of high workload. The football club as a whole aims to have at least one social per term as well as each individual team having their own socials. These socials include ‘Club Initiations’, ‘S**t shirt night’; as well as many more!

If you’re considering playing football whilst you’re here at Stephenson College, all I can say is GO FOR IT, you will not regret it one bit. Playing football is the best part of my time here at Durham University and I look forward to seeing you in September!

Football trials will take place at some point during fresher’s week so make sure you look out for us at the Queen’s Campus fresher’s fair and leave space in the car for your boots!

Women's Football

Hello there Stevo Rangers and welcome to the Womens Football Team!

The Womens Football Team had amazing success during last years season. Although they narrowly missed out on the Floodlit Cup they managed to finish top of Division 1 and secure promotion for this coming season. They aim to hit the pitch hard again this year and hold on to their victory.

They are a lively bunch of ladies, who enjoy spending time with each other both on and off the pitch, with an array of socials for maximum team bonding. They usually train twice a week on the astro-turf located at the campus gym. Matches are usually played on weekends, although Floodlit fixtures occur on Wednesday evenings. They cover both football skills, and fitness during training slots and welcome people of all levels, whether you’re the next big thing or haven’t kicked a ball for donkeys years. They provide equal opportunities for everyone and ensure everyone gets as involved as possible.

They don’t hold official try-outs, but it’s strongly recommended that you sign up to the team at the Freshers’ Fair so you can keep updated with all things football and when the first training session of the season is scheduled.

If you would like to come along and make some new friends for life, pop over and say hi during the Freshers Fair!
