As in the UK, Teaching Fellow positions are increasing in popularity across HE in Australia, yet a tension exists around their role, and the lack of research outputs from these academic staff. In 2013-2014 Monash University ran a Scholarship of Learning and Teaching development program for 20 such staff from across the disciplines, consisting of education seminars, a mentor scheme and a self-initiated research project. The participants were highly skilled in their own discipline and recognized for their outstanding teaching, but the discipline of education was new to them. Participants were supported through a small grant, and ongoing professional development throughout the two years of the program, with an aim to publish the outcomes of their research program. This presentation will describe the purpose and structure of the program, its pedagogical themes, the embedded mentor scheme, literature searching and writing workshops, and finally some of the research outcomes.
