Transition and Integration of Chinese Students into the UK programme after 3 years delivery of laboratory chemistry in China

This talk will explain briefly how the undergraduate degree programme was developed in the UK to deliver at NJUTech in China regarding curriculum and assessment, which needs to be the same as for the undergraduate course in Sheffield.   The talk will mainly focus on when the students passed their exams at the end of their year 3 in China and travelled to the UK to complete the 4th year of their degrees. 

            There were a number of challenges facing the Chinese students as they came to the UK, cultural, linguistic and settling into a new course after a comfortable three years in China with a group they knew well.  How was the integration of the students, was the transition smooth?  Did the students settle or want to go home?  How many students from the first cohort came to the UK, did they mix and take part with the UK students who had also been together for 2 years?   How many degree’ successes will we have and possibly progression onto a Masters.  Some will return to China once they get their degree.
