The Open University model of supported open learning depends the commitment and expertise of its 5000+ Associate Lecturers, each of whom are employed part-time.  Since 2013, ALs have had the opportunity to pursue the dual goals of scholarship and HEA Fellowship through engagement with the Open Professional and Academic Development scheme, OpenPAD.  OpenPAD is accredited by the Higher Education Academy and is available to all OU staff, including full-time academics and academic rated staff.  The talk will review the AL experience on OpenPAD to date and describe plans to enhance this by building in more explicit support for the development of scholarship skills into the scheme.
