A Teaching Network in a Research-Led Institution

The Science Teaching Network at the University of Sheffield has been operating for two years. It provides a forum for people to meet outside of the departmental setting, and share ideas, practice, and scholarship activities, in a way that had not previously been possible. Over sixty staff members have attended meetings with representatives from all departments and all grades (6-Prof) taking an interest. The visibility and success of the network is helping Teaching gain a prominent role within a Faculty in what is, unashamedly, a Research-Led institution.
This talk will describe the advice I received at the outset and how it has shaped the network, and I will highlight the enabling factors which have helped along the way.
