The Ustinovian is Ustinov College’s termly magazine, keeping students and alumni up to date with what’s going on at college, in Durham, and what Ustinovians are up to!
Meet the team…
Hi! I’m Emily, currently completing my MA in Archaeology. I’m one of the co-ordinators for the Ustinovian, so if you have any queries then send me a mail! I love archaeology, so over summer you’ll find me in a trench in Southern Italy, and during term time I’ll be lusting over new places to visit. I’m always scrolling through social media, which is why I’ll be leading the online version of the magazine this year!
Hi, I’m Kristine and I’m co-coordinating The Ustinovian this year, alongside with Emily. I’m in my second year of PhD and my research focuses on Mathematical Modelling in Biology. I like writing, small coffee shops and pastries – preferably all three at the same time.
Hello! I’m Sandhita Chandra, GCR Editor for the Ustinovian, doing my MA in English Literature. I listen to Beethoven and death metal and everything in between. Bad TV shows and good films keep me going. I wish I had interesting things to write about myself in bios.
(Hi!) I’m Sanya Mathur, Travel and Lifestyle Editor for The Ustinovian. I’m doing my MA in Politics and International Relations. I do come from India so if you do manage to spot any nostalgic articles that I wrote, blame my delightful new mate Jake Frost!
Vicki Baker- Interviews and Humans of Ustinov Editor
I’m here studying for my MA in Visual Arts and Culture, a subject which I think is important as it can bring communities of people together. This is something I am really keen to do going forward with the Ustonovian, by sharing people’s stories, thoughts and opinions with the rest of the college.
Iqbal is a first-year Phd student in human geography from Bangladesh. An avid photography enthusiast, he is currently coordinating the photography section of the Ustinovian. Football and cricket are his favourite sports. His beloved teams are Newcastle United, Bangladesh, and New Zealand.
Hi! I’m Amelia and I’m co-editor for the sport’s section this year. I’m currently studying for my MA in English Literature, and in my spare time I love to dance and do gymnastics.
Hello! I’m Abdulla, this year’s editor for the Global Citizenship Program section of the Ustinovian. Naturally, I’m very interested in global citizenship (or cosmopolitanism, in philosophical circles), specifically how it manifests in educational programmes.
Hello! I’m Kanika. I believe that everything is better in books. However, the world doesn’t allow me to live my days out moving from one wonderful book to another. It demands that I wade through life ceremoniously. So I study Creative Writing to ensure having books within reach at all times (specially for when I need to make sense of the world).
Hello! I’m Michael McGleenan, Editor for Travel and Lifestyle for the Ustinovian. I am currently reading for an MA in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Literary Studies, and I grew up in the Lake District. I am always keen on visiting new places (the Outer Hebrides and Cuba being the most recent) and I hope to give fellow Ustinov students the inspiration to discover new areas of the UK and further afield. I’m a keen footballer, and currently represent Durham University and Ustinov College AFC.
We are always looking for new contributors. What we want from you is articles or photos on any subject that you think will be of interest to the rest of the college, that is, a broad postgraduate readership. Perhaps you want to write a review of a formal you attended, want to let people know what your club or society has been up to, or have been exploring the area around Durham and want to share your adventures with others?
Of course, if there’s something else you’re burning to write about, do let us know! Anyone can be on the team – we always need eager writers, creative photographers and illustrators, and eagle-eyed designers! If you’re interested in contributing or have other questions, get in touch with us at: email@example.com.
