As the sun rises over the city the light catches on the citadel
setting it awash with a pale golden light. The people of the city move
through the streets hurrying to work. The market place is almost deserted
since the armies have moved out, the stall holders do there best to sell
there produce to the diminished crowds. In a small alley away from the
square a man in a dark cloak steps out of the shadows....
The church of St John has announced the sad death of Father
Jeckeric an old and talented member of the church. He apparently died of
natural causes and no investigation is taking place. The church mourns the
loss to the healing professions.
This has struck the church at a bad time, with many of there healers away
helping the war effort the sad demise of Father Jeckeric leaves the church
with very few healers.
The brown guild have requested any information as to the
whereabouts of Lewis Mallem a brown mage of the guild who went missing
earlier in the week.
The city guard last night found a red elf screaming in terror and
cowering in a corner, he appeared to be trying to protect himself from
something though he appeared not to have been damaged he was obviously in
great shock. He was not in any condition to speak when he was finally
brought back to the Pyrokin embassy but is said to be recovering.
A huge Eel has been seen swimming close to the river surface, It
appeared to be in some difficulties, but attempts to catch the creature
have so far been unsuccesful.
Rumors are coming of a strange and unknown creature appearing in
the palatinate It is said to be at least 7 foot tall and but stand in a
stooped posture. The creatures are black in colour and covered in a bone-like
skin. They fight using sharp claws. The seekers of Knowledge are said to be
interested and information will be rewarded.

out over the plane, their speartips glinting in the sun. In the distance a
Shadow is visable. A black rolling cloud obscuring the ground. The alarm
goes off and the tired men clamber out of their tents donning weapons and
armour. The Mages stand on the top of the hill observing the cloud, and
gauging it for magic.
The Blackness halted 50 foot from the base of the hill and a man rode out.
He was mounted on a Warhorse and wore blue glowing armour. In his hand he
weilded a Flaming broadsword that left firey trails in the air behind it.
His face was hidden behind a giant helm with a large plume. He paused to
survey the hill, then swung his sword forward. From within the cloud
shadows could be seen moving forward. Shades undoubtably, the mages
prepared to pour light onto the situation when suddenly a rumbling was
heard from beneath the hill. Out of the ground at the feet of the mages
hundreds of hands sprouted, they grabbed hold of the misfortunate men and
dragged them down into the hill below. Simultaneously the front ranks of
the army were assaulted by shades erupting out of the black cloud.
Throughout the hilltop men dropped their weapons and ran.
The City has outlawed Mewlip hunting pending a decision by the
city council. It has been said that the survival of mewlips within the
palatinate is an issue of great importance.
In the tunnels below the surface a group of mages stood beneath a
flickering light. Around them stood rank upon rank of gnomes. A group of
Brown elves arrayed in leather armour their obsidian blades spinning took
the front line. Behind them the mages started to hurl dispells over their
heads. The Gnomes fought hard and many mages died, particular note must go
to Gravnor of the Warlocks guild who single handedly slew three large
elementals whilst protecting a group of Blue skinned western elves. As the
last Gnome fell, his body dissapearing into the earth, blackness plunged
over the group.
Aboveground the situation seemed hopeless. behind the hill Sir
Josephine the Morvanian attempted to rally the fleeing troops and assemble
them to provide a rearguard. On the hill itself the camp was flattened and
unrecognizable to make matters worse Salamanders had started springing
from the campfires. Sir Flambard surveyed the men at his command, a
detatchment of Prince Bishops men resplendent in blue stood out from the
Militia and Mercanary troops. Time was needed to retreat he turned to look
at the Sergeant of The Prince Bishops men and nodded his head. The Men
charged down the hill into the black cloud. The shades surprised by this
savage attack flowed down the hill in pursuit.
The Troops of Flambard filed down from the hill and formed up with
the badly held line commanded by Sir Josephine. Slowly the retreat
A disturbence was reported in the Temple of Azreal today. A staue
of Azreal came alive and slew a lay preacher and five membners of his
congregation, the satue was eventually destroyed but many men were
injured. The Azrealites are blaming the Church of Humact and calling for
action from the council of churches.
In the city people have reported mysterious break ins. Holes have
appeared in the floors of their rooms and many valuables have gone
missing. The gnomes of Bayazid have been mentioned but no reason has been
suggested for these break-ins.
In the darkness Sergeant Zak fought for his life. shapes appeared
out of the darkness and fell before his sword, blows were deflected by his
shield and he felt like he should be dead many times over. Suddenly a
burst of light blew away the dark cloud. A man stood with a glowing sword
in his hand beating down shades and gnomes behind him a ragged column of
mud encrusted men in an assortment of robes. The sergeant recognized them
as the mages of Durholme but their number was much diminished of the
twenty who had fallen from the hilltop only seven now stood. With the
light the shades could not fight and the remaining salamanders soon fell.
The small group looked around to find themselves deserted. The distant
sounds of battle could be heard to the north as the retreat continued.
An enormous explosion rocked the city at midday today, claims of
an attack were soon proved to be wrong as a rain of cheese began to fall
on the city. The smoking remains of the alchemists guild seemed to be
central to the explosions cloud of dairy products.
As night fell the tired troops of Durholme arrived at the
battle site of Nevilles Cross. Flambard Called a halt and started to
prepare defences for the night. The fight was not going well and a lot of
luck would be needed if they were to survive the night. From a nearby hill
a man in blue armour surveyed the defences, a click of bone was heard then

As the sun rises the army of Durholme look out across the valley,
amazed at there survival, they had expected to die in the night, but the
attack had never come. Flambard once more ordered the retreat and the army
formed up. The slow movement was covered by a troop of silver daggers frsh
from the city and mounted on horseback, their penants flapping in the wind
and the sun shining off there armour.
As the files moved out a wonderous thing was seen. The elementals
of Bayazids army were halted in there tracks and stood un moving for some
time. Then they clustered on the hill top and appeared to be observing
something in the valley below. The troops quickened there pace and moved
on, hoping to reach the relative security of Durholme before nightfall.
The house of Lord Barnsal the cloth merchant was broken into last
night, thieves made off with hundreds of crowns worth of valuables. The
method of breakin is as yet unknown but the city guard are looking into
The army had retreated from the hill, and only the mounted Silver
Daggers remained, Suddenly from behind the hill opposite, two Sylths flew
into the air, directly upwards they flew, thousands and thousands of feet,
matched perfectly in position, slowly they floated down to the surface
behind the hill.
As the Daggers turned to follow the retreating army and leave the
hill a huge stone flew out from behind the hillside and landed with a
crash on the position the horsemen had occupied scant seconds previously,
the horses leapt in terror and plunged headlong down the hillside,
scattering the mercanaries as they went.
Farmer Gochley, owner of Gochley's pig farm to the North of Durholme
city, has been spreading a story about the taverns. Apparantly he was out
for a walk a few days ago and witnessed lightning shooting UP from a nearby
wood. The farmer was so astounded by this unheard of sight that he fled
the area losing his new walking stick.
The Church of Throrr has announced that the Head of the church in
Durholme Father Sorin will be standing down for religous reasons, the new
head Throst has announced that a public penance will be served by the
In the valley the elementals stood still, a gnome held a giant
rock in his hand effortlessly, The Man in glowing blue armour stood face
to face with another figure, dressed in a black robe that appeared to have
a life of its own. The Black figure snapped his fingers and the elementals
formed into a vast column, the sylths flying forward over the hills whilst
the others moved at a slower pace. Bayazid looked at the man in blue and
Notices have been going up around the city and its surroundings,
asking for people who want to be trained as warriors. The notices are
being removed by the Mercanaries guild as fast as they are put up, so
unfortunately not many people have actaully read one and know how to
contact the writers of the notices, which also offers "all the loot you
could wish for...."
The column was moving quickly now spurred on by the closeness of
the city, relief troops had been sent in to help with the retreat and
things were looking hopeful. Suddenly from out of nowhere twenty Sylths
appeared cutting deep into the column heading directly for Flambard
himself, Five of the creatures made it to him but all were cut down with a
swing of Dunelm. Flambard looked about him at the chaos that had been an
orderly retreat. To the rear a black shadow was descending on his force.
whilst all about him men ran screaming in the direction of the city.....

As the sun breaks the horizon a sombre procession travels the
streets of Durholme, at its head is a troop of city guard, they surround a
man in glowing blue armour, his hands chained. His face is hidden by his
helmet but his head is held up proudly. Behind him the High executioner
follows dressed in black. Representatives of the churches of Azreal and
Humact follow behind him. The early risers of the city watch as the
procession passes through to the Market square. In the square stands a
large pile of wood and straw stacked into a bonfire with a stake running
through the middle. The man in blue is tied to the stake and the fire lit.
The army of Durholme marched on, The elementals had mostly stopped
fighting last wednesday, something to do with some ritual, but a lucky
break whatever happened. Some of them fought on under human commanders,
traiters more like, still most of them have been rounded up now. The army
are chasing down some of these commanders in Rovac now. Its been declared
that the army will remain in Rovac afterwards to police the situation and
prevent banditry. The Palatinate has gained a lot of new farmland and two
major ports into the bargain.
The Rovacians aren't to but what can they do about it, there army
is in tatters, whats left of it and half the population has fleed as
refugees. Still they have stopped trading with Durholme and are not
letting trade caravans going north through. And they have stopped
diplomatic relations with the Palatinate while the army remains on Rovac
A strange scene was observed this morning when a human and a
goblin were seen hurtling through the air from the direction of the
Alchemists guild. They apparently landed in a haystack but had dissapeared
by the time anyone arrived to investigate.
The Brown guild have expelled a Johannus Iyatus from the guild for
illegal trading of spells, he has had his focus removed and been

The seekers of Knowledge sent a group out to investigate a portal
which opened in the northern reaches of the palatinate, alas two of the
group failed to return from the expedition, The seeker leading the group
and a lieutenant of the Silver Daggers Shomar. The portal is said to have
closed however the Seekers have reported that researcher Aleyna
Skychaser has travelled to the site of the entrance portal to confirm its
closure and the collapse of the coincident realities but is yet to return
Three men were found asleep in an alley, they showed signs of an
attack upon them and were very hard to awaken. Upon wakening the three men
claimed that nothing had been taken and made off into the crowds. Any
information as to the whereabouts of these men should be given to the
guards, who find the whole situation decidedly dodgy!
As the Bonfire dies down the Executioner steps up to the still
glowing armour. Knocking it from the fire, he examines the suit. It is
badly burnt and appears to be useless as armour, However strangely there
is no sign of a corpse inside. It is absolutely empty.
The Fire is cleared up and the Armour buried with the effects of the
traiter. From the distance a man in black flowing robes looks on, and

Guardsman Jones was tired he'd been on duty all night, the citadel
didn't really need guarding anyway. Inside the rest of the citadel guards
had been celebrating the victory over bayazid, Jones just wanted to sleep.
He looked across the green at the Mathemagicians tower, its outline hazy
and flickering still. Near the top a pair of gulls wheeled around the
mighty tower. Looking south Jones thought imagined that he could see the
old border with glantri and beyond it the province of New Durholme. Ah
well musn't let the mind wander. Turning back he looked once more at the
tower... It was gone. There was no sign of the Mathemagicians tower, where
once it had stood there was now an empty patch.
A surge of magical energy swept across the city this morning. At
the same time the Mathemagicians tower dissapeared. The surge of energy
has been reported to have emanated from the Grey guild, where a ritual
took place this morning. The ritual was said to be a harmless spell to
find the body of the Scarlet Witch King, but the whereabouts has not been
made clear yet.

On palace green something strange is happening, where there used to be the
Mathemagicians tower now there is a shimmer in the air, something slowly
appears. It is a figure, a full 100 foot high, it has wings spanning the
sky like an angel. The figure doesn't move. It appears to be made of some
metal. A statue, but where did it come from, and perhaps more importantly
There is a loud explosion. A deafenning roar. A plume of smoke trails
upwards from the Alchemists guild. The sky is darkened by bits of rubble,
but not only that, smell yellow fruits rain down from the sky, they have
an acidic taste to them, quite how they appeared is unknown. Coughing and
spluttering the alchemists emerge from the smoking building. Above them in
the sky a piece of roof is hurtling through the air. It lands with a crash
on Mrs Miggins lodging house, just down from the Mercanaries guild.
The Mercanaries guild have placed a strange object upon there roof, it

The building was fortuitously empty but for this child, the rest of the
inhabitants had been watching the building of Kevin on the nearby roof.
The child is named as Calara Wulfgard, youngest daughter of Ranulf
Wulfgard of the church of Astalon. The last of the wreckage is removed
from the house, but alas the child has breathed her last...
Five mages have gone missing from the city, they all disapeared from the

When Sainte Adam-Ada was on this mortal plain, before he was elevated to
divinity and became The Balance, his birthday was on 19th February. Since
his elevation, followers of the Circle of Balance, especially the priests,
have celebrated and feasted on Sainte Adam-Ada's Day, just as He did on
his final birthday before his death. So keen are they to celebrate, that
many start early.
Sainte Adam-Ada's Day is not until Thursday, but already large numbers of
drunken followers of the Circle of Balance have been seen all around the
Palatinate, especially in Durholme itself. Many residents of the peninsula
have had little sleep this week, due to the excessive antics of the
priests within their church on the Bailey. Even Morode Blackwith, head of
the church within Durholme and its territories, was seen staggering along
the riverbank last night, shouting "Adam-Ada was my mate, he was",
before collapsing in the middle of Palace Green, singing "Oi Xaroc, come
and have a go if you think you're hard enough!".
The Seekers of Knowledge have warned that a magical portal has opened off
to the north of Durholme. Friar Whitehorn who is leading research by the
Seekers into the phenomenom stated that he considered the portal an
"exciting development which raises many interesting questions". Lord
Purrfect of Furnace has been invited to the city to offer expert advice,
though Friar Whitehorn stated that the Seekers would require support from
the City to fund further research. When asked what research had already
been done, Friar Whitehorn claimed the information was priviliged to the
Seekers and the existence of the portal had only been made public in the
interests of civic defence and safety.
Travellers from Rovac have brought tales of a great Theft. The crown

The good city has been overrun over the last few hours by what appears to
be a plague of rats. The 'orrible little critters are literally pouring

Already, St Johns has recieved several dozen people who have been bitten
and are worried about the bites going bad.
The phenonema seems to be restricted to those areas of the city not on the

There was a scene of great celebration at the alchemists guild this
morning, apparently one of their number had created gold. The Alchemist in
question, Randaral Wandsal was experimenting with his breakfast when it
mysteriously exploded all over the kitchen, however when the smoke cleared
he found a solid gold disc a foot across sitting in his frying pan.
Randaral has said he is going to take his cake of gold and retire,
probably buying a farm in New Durholme. The Alchemists guild have been
unable to recreate the conditions of the experiment.
Banditry has increased again in the area of New Durholme, the city has

Notice from the City Council has advised that the villages of Harnthorpe,

area is currently considered unsafe for travellers.
The Red guild of Durholme have started negotiations with the Pyrokin

Pyrokin wish to open a church then guild land will be made available and
the pyrokin of the church made members of the guild.
Lord Purrfect of Furnace left Durholme today following his brief visit to
provide assistance to the Seekers of Knowledge. The Seekers have
reiterated an earlier anouncement that Purrfect is not a demon and is, in
fact, quite a nice chap who was even a guest of the Prince Bishop over the
weekend. They were keen to point out that Lord Purrfect is the current
warden of the spiritual inferno known as the Furnace which blazes around
the rift on the West Coast. The rift is between this plane and the plane
of undeath, and the Furnace fulfills an important role by consuming those
undead spirits which come through from the other side.
Meanwhile, the church of Ghedrent has called for the Seekers of Knowledge
to be thrown off the Council of Churches and out of the City for dabbling
in 'immoral and blasphemous practices'.

On Wednesday morning the river burst its banks and large parts of the City

barely saw the arrowhead protruding from his chest as he fell to the
floor. He certainly felt pain as the black sticky poison took effect and
his body wracked in spasm after spasm before he fell into unconciousness.

Sergeant Naismith was tired, it had been a long night, his patrol would be
off duty in another ten minutes and he could go home and sleep. Damn those
bandits, after the war with Bayazid he'd hoped he could have taken some
light duty for a change. Ah well it was mostly only checking passes
Up ahead on the road something moved. The patrol stopped moving and
listened. Yes there was definately something out there. Drawing his sword
the sergeant went forward to see what was there. Behind him the Corporal
organized the guardsmen for a possible fight. The sergeant called out Halt
who goes there. The shape on the road stopped and looked up. From the
trees to the right a crossbow bolt flew striking Naismith in the throat
dropping him to the floor. The rest of the guard were stunned, then
charging forward they attacked the enemy that had killed there sergeant.
At the gate of the city a queue of merchents was forming, for some reason
the guards were searching all the carts. Ah, there were some astalonians
there as well, must be church business. Don't know what they could be

Reports are coming in from the village of Hewme in the north of the

The sun rises above the peaceful city, shaking off the clouds that had
covered the sky for the last week. It looked to be a beutiful day. Down at
the docks a group of gaurdsmen had assembled at the front of them was a
figure dressed in black, carrying a buring torch. A guardsman walked
forwards and opened the door to a warehouse and the group walked in.
Several minutes later the group walked out as flames started to lick at
the warehouse doors. The man in black watched the warehouse burn for some
time before two mages started directing jets of water onto the building.
Satisfied that the shrine of the traiter had been destroyed the head of
the inquisition walked off.
News from the south is not good, apparently the forces of Durholme have
been involved in running skirmeshes with Rovac militia. Commander Flambard
has traveled to the area himself and is overseeing the operation. Reports
are that the situation under control and that Durholme still holds the
protection of the New Durholme area.
The Merchent family Lycanth has put out a reward for person that brings
them the head of the murderer of their youngest son Roger. His body was
found in an alley near to the red warlock and greedy goblin taverns.
A commotion started near the alchemists guild when a creature with large
wings was seen atop the building. Another larger but unwinged figure
stepped up beside it and took the creature in its hands launching it into
the air. With its wings held outstretched the creature swooped through the
air before rising up nearly to the edge of the alchemists guild. At this
point it seemed to get excited about something and started flailing its
wings and shouting Fly, I fly look look Fly!!! before hurtling
groundwards. At the last minute it seemed to slow down and float to the
ground. The crowd rushed up to see what this strange creature was and
found a man dressed in blue. He had giant wings strapped to his arms and
seemed to be very excited. He was taken into the alchemists guild.
The body of a local thug, One Eyed Thomas was found at the crusty lobster,
he was suspended from the tavern wallby his boots with a small puddle of
blood beneath him. This seeemd to originate from a small puncture wound at
the base of his neck. Tucke into his belt was an Ace of Wands tarot card.
High Preistess Demora of the Church of Kakatal has called all pyrokin in
the city to come to the temple, The reasons for this calling have not been
made clear but it has been suggested that it may have something to do with
an attemteped attack on an astalonian last week.

Strett O'Nhils looked down from the fortifications towards the village,
clustered around the rivermouth of the Aeren river. The Weather here in
Rovac had been pleasently wet this june - the Green Elves living here were
taking it as a Omen of some kind. After the colony further up the coast
had been destroyed a few weeks ago, the village had thrown up defenses and
were keeping guards on duty at all times.
Meanwhile, in the fair city of Durholme, everyone seems to be a bit on the
busy side. City councillers are locked in discussion chambers, the Prince
Bishop herself has called the council together, the major churches are
debating soemthing amongst themselves and the mages are doing the same.
Even the elves have started to talk to one another, although as the
meeting seems to have been at the behest of the Pyrokin, the Green Elves
are refusing to attend meetings until neutral ground is found. No-one
outside these groups of important people seem to know what is going on.
"The so-called 'major' churches just aren't talking to us." muttered a
priest of Kerrimar in the Greedy Goblin last night "Who knows what it's
Also in Durholme, the city has been recieving an influx of hobbit
refugees. The small people, led by one Frederick Fortesque, claim to be
>from the village of Apple Pie, which has been devastated by famine forcing
the hobbits to move to pastures new. "We do not come here for handouts or
to beg from the larger folk" announced Fortesque in the marketplace "we
wish to be full working membes of Durholme society and want to gain
meaningful employment." The hobbits have rented accomodation in the South
side of the city.
The discussions between the Elves culminated in an emergency meeting last
night in the Church of Kakatal, attended by all but the Green Elves. The
Elven embassies and the three elemental churches have closed their doors
to normal business since, the elves seem preoccupied with something.
Reports are still filtering in from Andrast about the sudden and
mysterious dissapperance of an entire Orc / Undead army. Only scattered
groups of Orcs remain, and the caravaneers are both thanking Walkeen for
his generosity and busying themselves with reestablishing trade routes
through the region.
Elementalists all over Northern Albion are facing a puzzling problem -
since Tuesday morning, spells of the higher arcana are not casting
properly. Tales range from spells being reversed in effect, increased or
decreased durations or even seemingly random effects. The head of
Durholme's grey guild, Rhaul, stated "This is probably the effect of some
natural cycle we were unaware of. Everything will doubtless return to
normal soon." He then left without answering any questions.
Over a dozen people have dissappeared over the last week, members of
diverse proffessions as the alchemists, mercheant adventurers, ratcatchers
and blacksmith's guilds. The church of Astalon is looking into the
situation, amid rumors of unusual things found at the missing people's
The execution by burning of Ruffles the Kender for practising illegal
magics has been postponed pending an appeal by his legal counsel. The case

Ruffles does not possess a human's or elf's mental faculties and so has
reduced responsibility for his actions.
Smite-them-untu-the-hundrenth-generation Waggleblade, the arresting

The Astrologer's guild is highly excited, the usually sedate guild
headquaters being transformed into a flurry of activity. The head of the
guild, Yastromo Daedelus, gave the following speech before rushing off
towards the citadel.
"The recent conjunction of the planets has had an unusual affect on the
stars. From what we can tell, various spheres in the heavens are moving in
different patterns, indicating some great change afoot in the planes."
When he was asked by a man in the crowd what the findings meant, he
"We belive that these sort of changes occur periodically, signifying some
sort of alteration in the balance of power in the universe. We think we've
identified several other times in the past where such conjunctions may
have happened, and we're very excited about the results."
Daedelus was laughed off the public speeking podium in the marketplace
with cries of "pull the other one for yea it hath bells attached" and
several rude names cast at him.
But Deadelus had the last laugh when, last night, a great sight was seen
in the skies above Durholme. At first, the guards patrolling the city
walls thought it to be a meteorite shower, but as it moved closer they saw
it for what it truely was - a giant cloud of Salamanders and Alkars,
flying in formation around something that they took to be a cloud at
first. By the time the Elemental cloud had dispersed, revealing the object
at the centre, huge crowds had gathered in the streets to watch as a huge
firey cloud in the shape of a Dragon passed over the city, before
accelerating to the East and exploding in a huge fireball.
And when the thousends of eyes watching the sky turned their gaze back
towards their surroundings, the Mathmagician's tower had turned black.
Before the shocked crowds could do anything, the tower blurred and
returned to it's normal self.
Rumors are spreading like wildfire around the city - some claim the
existance of the elemental swarm to be proof of Bayazid's return, others
claim Xaroc is responsible, citing the effect on his tower. Others favour
somewhat more outlandish theories. Everyone seems to have an opinion, and
debate in the Seeker's head is getting particularly heated. The citadel
has not expressed an official opinion.
Strett O'Nhils did not see anything of the sort that night, nor did any of
his fellow villagers. They were, at that time, rapidly evaporating pools
of water. Their murderers walked through the ruins of the village before
declairing it good and assembling in the village square. A rent appeared
in the air in front of the lined up troops and the invaders went home,
leaving nothing behind but a frightened water spirte and the remains of
what once had been an elven village.

The day crept slowly upon the overshadowed city of Durholme, the sun
rising behind winter cloud to cast a dreary light over proud walls that
have stood the millenia unbowed. The citizens were not surprised by the
bleak weather, in fact the city was famous for it. Crops were harvested,
rooves repaired, and the citizens braced themselves for the onslaught of
Wanted posters have appeared throughout the city for Eric, notorious
rogue and adventurer. He is wanted for allegedly conspiring with the traitor
Charrybdis and a 100 crowns reward is offered for him alive. No further
sightings have been made of Charrybdis after he appeared in the greedy
Goblin tavern in June (some weeks after he was killed by Vlad and bits
of him placed on spikes). Authorities are puzzeled but are sure when they
find Eric all will be revealed.
Due to the recent influx of hobbits from the now abandoned village of
Apple Pie, jobs are scarce in the city this winter. The hobbits are living
together in the south quarter of the city and trying their hand at everything
from candle making to sewage disposal.
Rumours abound from the northern lands that a great leader has arisen
among the celts, and is uniting the numerous clans under one banner, with
the aim of making the celtic lands a strong nation able to stand up to
incursions from the south.
Jagrath the seer is visiting the city this week. The prince Bishop Leonora
Ventura has personally issued a decree that he be not harmed while within
the palatinate, and that none hinder him. His visions in the past have
predicted many things from floods to elemental invasions, though his manner
is a bit erratic his powers are reputedly great.
Rumours that numbers of lizard men are on the rise have reached Durholme.
Primitive, feral people the lizerd man are not considered to pose much

People living in the village of Ham claim that the wood nearby is haunted.
They claim to have seen sinister figures and strange lights moving around,

There has been an infestation of woodlice in the city of Durholme, and
they can be found under nearly every rock wandering around as though they
havent got a clue.

A mearchant by the name of Elir is looking for volunteers to help in
a trade venture between Durholme and New Durholme. Details are confidential,
but he is looking for mages, fighters, scouts, spirit users and anyone
else suitable to help look after goods in transits. Good wages promised.
The guild of mages has agreed to a re-allocation of spells between the

There has been a news blackout from New Durholme. The Margrave Corrigan
has issued the following statement:" Rebel forces in New Durholme
are contained, and will soon see the error of their ways or starve in the
winter. I deeply regret that they bring suffering on the rest of the populace
who warmly welcome our policing action".
Rumours abound of sightings of Dragon Lords all over the place, however,
this has been largely put down to panic and the authorities have issued
no further statements.

The dawn air is cold and clear as the dull orange disc of the Autumn
sun slowly peers over the horizon at Wearmouth. The people on the shore
lower their shoulders to the boat that rests upon the beach. Their breath
crystallizes before them as they start to push the ship down into the sea.
At first it moves only slowly, but as they strain against the hull the
momentum builds and it carries itself into the water, waves breaking around
it as it goes, carrying Sir Danya^Òs body out to sea.
As it starts to drift away, Moog reaches out and touches Esk on the
shoulder. Esk half turns to see Moog nodding at her, mouthing "it
is time". She starts the spell pulling her mana through her focus
and forcing it out of herself in a huge ball of flame that engulfs the
prepared boat. It instantly becomes alight, flames dancing up and down
its decks, burning with a light that seems to outshine the still rising
sun. Those on the shore watch in silence as the bier is consumed by the
fires and slowly sinks into the sea, slipping below the waves eventually.
only then does Sir Rebecca De Risingdale speak, a short speech about Sir
Danya^Òs exploits, and only after that is completed do all unhappily
turn back to Durholme, tears in their eyes, a friend lost.
The White Guild has announced that Joseph Chandler, a venerable member
of the guild, has not reported for duty for several weeks, and they have
now become concerned for his safety. They ask any who may have any information
to step forward to help them with their investigations.
Reports have been received by the city guard that a farm near Esh Winning
has been destroyed and burnt to the ground. There seems to be no sign of
how it happened and the guard are now carrying out further investigations.
The Church of Throrr has announced that they intend to start a new league
of heavyweight wrestling. The high priest of the church, Throst, denied
the rumours that the league was to be entitled "the Battle of the
Bulge," or that the first bout had taken place in the privy of the
News is now reaching Durholme that the High King of the Seven Shires,
Harold, has recently died, leaving a substantial power vacuum and no immediate
heirs. Presently there is a small measure of chaos in the ruling council,
especially following the death of the one of the most powerful lords earlier
this year. Claims that Warwick, the lord in question, was killed by adventurers
from Durholme, including a Morvanian, a Ranger originally from the region
and a short insane Celt are so far unsubstantiated.
There was a disturbance in the market place yesterday as several protesters
were removed from the vicinity under force of arms. Witnesses stated that
the protesters were complaining about the forced occupation of what was

A strange body was found floating in the river on Sunday. It would appear

The leader of what appears to be the newly unified Celtic tribes in
the Northlands, William McEwan, has signed a treaty with both Durholme
and Newcroft. The details have, not been released but it would appear to
be a non-aggression pact of some kind.
There have been a number of disappearances in the southern quarter of
the outer city. No confirmed numbers have been given yet, but currently
it is thought to be at least 5 or 6 people, all of whom went missing from
A new church, worshipping a deity called Tern Poy, has been given permission
to open it^Òs doors in the city. It is currently on Church Council
probation but has not yet found a location.
The village of Ham would now appear to be devoid of any habitation.
The Authorities have expressed deep concern about this matter, and are
reported to be hiring adventurers to investigate the matter.
A priest of Tymora has been seen preaching in the market place, spouting
about the joys of fortune and luck. It has come to the attention of the
council of churches that this is not a sanctioned church in Durholme presently
and they would like to discuss the matter with the individual who was doing
the preaching. The Inquisition has been asked to look into this also.
While we are on the matter of the Inquisition, there is currently a
rumour that the Inquisition and the Witchfinders are about to start a thorough
search of churches and guilds in the city, following incidents like the
case of Charybdis last year. Mages and priests are being warned to register
with the appropriate authorities soon.
Night has fallen on the city of Durholme and its streets are relatively
quiet in the chill October air. A shooting star moves slowly across the
dark skies and two small children look up at it from their bedroom window
a couple of miles outside Durholme. One of them notices that it seems to
moving towards Durholme and it is rapidly getting bigger. He cries to his
mother, who runs into the room and looks out of the window. Then the world
explodes around them. In the morning all that is left of the house and
the family within is a large pit where the house stood and, cast to one
side, half of a small child^Òs teddy bear, slightly charred and
blackened around the edges.

Guyll and his two friends passed on through the shadows in the late
evening mists of one of the less respectable ends of town. Their quarry
was before them, a hapless trader who one of them had struck up a conversation
with in a tavern earlier. He had sounded well off so they left after he
did. Silently they now persued him, waiting for a street with no witneses.
Where had he been from? Ham, or some such place. No matter, he wasnt going
to enjoy this evening in the big city very much. And if he was foolish
enough to put up a fight... just another body in a gutter. All in a nights
work. The mearchant entered an alley Guyll knew to be a dead end. Guyll
and his friends followed, blocking the entrance and drawing their blades
with a menacing purpose...
There have been reports of sitings of a Vampire attacking cattle in
the farmlands to the North of Durholme. Most people blame it on simple
minded farmers. Certainly vampires are not known for a preference for cow.
There is a reward of 1000 crowns out for the capture of the notorious
pirate Nobbs. He has been reported sinking shipping in the sea to the East
of newcroft, costing traders dearly. The price of overseas goods has gone
up as a result of this one man and his motley crew.
Rumours have leaked out that there has been an escape from the supposedly
impregnable cells of the church of Astalon. No explanation has been offered
by astalonian authorities as to this phonomenon, the prisioners seem to
have simply dissappeared into thin air.
The renowned explorer Caddius Clog has recently returned to his home

ancient temples, taking tea with wierd gods, rescuing beautiful monsters
from ravening princesses and generally achieving enlightenment have preceeded
him, but no doubt the true tale will be even more fabulous than our wildest
Someone has thrown bricks through the windows of the Brown guild this
week. Furnock of Furd, head of the guild, has condemned the act as unprovoked
and unreasonable and has appealed to the city for witnesses.
The Church of Tern Poy has set itself up in a small property off saddler
street. Claiming to offer freedom from the conflicts and agonys of the
fruitless struggle of existence, it has been provisionally been granted
permission to preach by the Council of Churches.
The previously unknown new owner of the Mewlips Head has come foreward
into the publics attention with his decision to rename the tavern to "the
Dragons Scales". By the name of John Smith, some have criticised his
move as in poor taste given the current situation, but others see it as
a bold statment of indifference to the Dragon lords.
The village of Muddy Waters has been burned to the ground and everyone
there killed, including a minor priest of Throrr who worked at the temple
there. Arriving on the scene, Durholme militia were unable to find any
clues about who had perpetrated this ghastly crime.
The grey guild are holding a party on Tuesday. Food and drink will be
provided by Sobriety M'aniac and all people who have any connection however
tenuous with the Grey Guild are invited on the provisio that they will
in no way premeditatidely attempt to stay sober.
There have been reports of Demons at large in the city, often in the
form of normal people until provoked. Clifton Anvil of the Mercenaries
Guild has assembled a force to deal with the situation [[[OOC if any mercs
want to join please let us know before next ref meeting]]]. In a statment
today he has said "Well the B******s have been coming from the village
of Ham from our reports, so we will march in there and kick 'em so hard
their mothers are going to feel it."
The dissappearances in the south quarter of the city are continuing
at a steady rate. Authorities are still baffled.
Contact has been lost with the village of Piedon to the North West of
Durholme. A large force of celts led by Will McEwan have descended on the
mearchant city of Carlyle. Showing much greater discipline than previous
celtic forces they have effectively besieged the city after defeating the
bulk of the forces of Carlyle on the field of battle.
A ghostly figure has been appearing in several major oficial buildings
of the city. Mages are at a loss to explain this phonomenon which is reported
to consist of a slightly insubstantial and silent image moving about and
The temple of Throrr in Durholme was firebombed this weekend. A burning
bottle of alcohol was thrown through the window of the basement to the
Seekers Head where the temple is located. Due to prompt action by the two
priests on duty at the time no-one was seriously hurt and the fire was
On Monday residents of Durholme near the infamous Alchemists guild witnessed
a bizarre sight. There was an explosion of green fire from the roof of
the Very Dangerous Chemical Research building followed by a shower of large
orange projectiles over the city. These projectiles (Later identified by
agricultural experts as pumpkins) bounced of rooves and unfortunate heads
and rolled down streets causing a menace to traffic before exploding in
bright puffs of blue smoke. Property damage is estimated to be minimal
but the alchemists guild have appealed to anyone suspecting an unexploded
pumpkin to inform them immediately.
The pyroken embassy in conjunction with the church of Kakatal have put
the services of Pyrroken mages up to the farmers of lands around, offering
them a controlled fire service for burning of stubble fields for a nominal
fee. Also many warm red blankets have been distributed to the needy and
homeless by the church in what seems like further efforts to live down
the Pyrrokens previously turbulent relationship with the city.
As guyll and his two friends lay dying in pools of their own blood they
saw the mearchant resume his human form and leave the alley, humming a
cheerful little tune.

A hot midday sun, unusually so for this time of year, beats down on
a large crowd that assembles just inside the city gate. The air is humming
with tension as talk of injustice and repression spreads between the people
there. Banners are raised as Ishmundi, Johnite, Morvanian, Walkeenite and
a Throrrite Priest all stand shoulder to shoulder to fight against the
wrongs that Durholme is permitting in New Durholme. They march for the
citadel, to demand amends be made for what has been done. But entry is
refused at the entry to the citadel, and the guard turn out, in case of
Last night a shopkeeper, Tom C. Dibbler, was found hanging upside down
in his own shop, the Brazen Kettle. He had an Ace of Wands pinned to his
chest with a dagger. Commonly known as a merchant who dealt in common household
goods, he also provided second-hand weapons to members of the mercenaries
guild. The authorities are investigating.
Conflagracia Flambard has announced that she will take revenge on "the
fool who soaked me." It would appear that someone took the risk of
dumping a bucket of water over the head of the red guild, while she was
walking down Silver Street. She has already paid the owner of the building
for the damage she caused trying to apprehend the people involved
The Grey guild has been asked to keep the noise levels at future parties
down, as last weeks seem to have kept all of surrounding properties awake

has promised to be more respectful in the future.
Lord Garrek Re'Kesh sat at his desk in the Pyrokin embassy, the sun
slowly setting behind the window of his office. In front of him lay heaps
of manuscripts, charts and slates of figures. The Dragonlords weighed deeply
on his mind, let alone the developments in the red guild. He knew that
he would have his work cut out over the next few months, as he would find
himself having to placate the various bodies that he knew would approach
Suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his back and the world started to move
more slowly than it normally did. He heard some glass tinkle, hitting the
floor under his window and looking down at his chest he could see the point
of a crossbow bolt poking out. Then the spasms of pain coursed through
his body and he knew that his end was already near. Within a minute all
that was left were a few scorch marks on the chair he had sat in and the
cold-iron tipped crossbow bolt lying on the floor, an ichor sticking still
to it's point.
A white elf was discovered in a catatonic state in moatside lane. The
elf is still alive but seems to be unable to respond to any form of external
stimuli. The church of Astalon has expressed real concerns about its similarities
with some previous cases. The elf in question was a member of the staff
at the embassy.
Jones the farmer stumbles through the forest looking desperately for
his newborn son. He happens across a clearing and the sight that befalls
his eyes in the moonlit glade sends waves of horror through his body. Staked
out in the pale glow are 5 babies, all born within the last few weeks and
next to them is stands a sign. On it, in the blood of the children, is
written "Look to Durholme for the cause of this PAIN!" It is
several hours before Jones regains enough strength to go for help.
--- A city mission to the village of Piedon has discovered that all
residents were dead except for one. They were found to all have been killed
by some disease which results in large purple blotches that break out all
over the flesh of the suffering individual. The survivor has been brought
back to the church of St. Johns. The word is that he is a raving lunatic,
though he keeps repeating that a man came to the village, before the plague,
to warn them of "impending doom."
This morning the remains of the mercenary company lead by Clifton Anvil
to the village of Ham returned. Very few seem to have survived unscathed
and most are being treated at the temple of St. Johns. Clifton was heard
to mumble something about Demons and about they bei8ng more organised than
Bayazids army ever was. The word on the street suggests that the church
of Ghedrent is planning to launch a sally to Ham themselves.
The notorious pirate Nobbs is now thought to have been responsible for
the sinking of six merchant ships and one war galleon in the last week.
There is talk of a raising of his bounty.
There have been even more reports of a Vampire attacking cattle in the
farmlands to the North of Durholme. Even more people are blaming it on
Posters have appeared across the city today declaring precisely what
underwear the Margave Corrigan and the Lady Sobreity are wearing today,
being a leopard-skin posing pouch and a little black lacy number respectively.
Or maybe that's the wrong way round?
Will McEwan has gone missing from the midst of his army. While besieging
Carlysle he disappeared one night. Rumours are that a special squad has
taken him out, in the hope that the Celts will abandon their offensive.
At the moment it looks like this may be a correct guess as the Celts seem
to milling around and some have already returned to the Northlands.
On Monday night a large Skeletal Hand appeared above the city, pointing
down towards a house, it is thought. A loud booming voice was heard to
say, "IT's you". No one seems sure as to who lives at the address.
There are rumours that the ghost of King Harold of the Seven Shires
has been sighted walking the corridors of his palace at Kenilworth. Some
say that he will not rest until the rightful king sits upon the throne
It has been noted that there seem to be an unusually large number of
elves in the city for this time of year. None of the embassy's were available
--- A ghostly apparition has been seen round the city again. The Circle
of Balance has promised to investigate.
A rather irate looking pyrokin recently destroyed the new sign for the
tavern, the Dragon's Scales. He was heard to say something about "ignorant
human fools," while his two companions made reparations to the barkeep
of the place.
There have been a number of disappearances in the dock area recently,
though most of the individuals involved have been patrons of the crusty
lobster. It is thought by many that the poor beer may finally have got
the better of them
The Citadel Guard form up as a shield wall in front of the protesters,
barring them from entry to the Citadel and the Margrave. They refuse to
take the petition from the Ishmundi's waving it at them. And then the stone
is thrown. Nobody is sure where it comes from, just that it hits one of
the Johnites in the face. The crowd surges forwards and it looks like the
shield wall will buckle under the pressure. It is then that the guards
receive their orders to advance. The massacre begins. Unarmed protesters
are cut down before them as the Guard carry out the order to clear the
citadel gate. Blood runs in the streets.

Another cold night in Durholme. The stars were out and the wind, though
gentle, was bitingly cold. Corr huddled around his warm lantern as he did

The Margrave Corrigan has issued a statment this week. If the scenes
of civil unrest observed last week continue, he will have no option but
to declare martial law in the city. Word has reached Durholme that Her
Grace the Prince Bishop Leonora Ventura herself, absolute ruler of the
palatinate, will be arriving in the city soon to see for herself the state
of the populace and to appeal for public order. She has been touring several
villages on the way from her palace in Bishop Auckland and talking pesonally

The lord Stafford of Staffordshire has announced that he has William
McEwan, and that he will shortly put him on trial for treasonous invasion
of the southern kingdoms. Stafford has siezed the initiative this has bought
him to press foreward with new treaties with the other shires, and has
made clear his intention to stand before the council for king.
The council of churches has been in session for the first time since
the protest march. Several voices in the council have called for an ultimatum
to be set before the Margrave, or even to take the matter to the Prince
Bishop herself. others called for order. the church of Astalon is preparing
a report on the policing action following the completion of its survey,
and this is expected to be the casting vote to sway the council into decisive
action one way or the other.
There has been an outbreak of cat mutilations in the city recently.
Dismembered and decapitated cats have been found in various public throughfares
and trading areas. The church of Bast has not yet issued a statement on
Sightings of wolf-men have been reported to the East of the city, where
local farmers blame them for the carrying off of over a dozen cattle. Farmers
are protesting to the church of Humact to do something about this or they
will seek compensation. The church of humact in response denied that werewolves
were true undead but sufferers of a bizarre disease, and so not their responsibility.
The cattle abductions continue.
Elves of all colours have this week sent representatives to an elven
council on the Dragonlord situation. The discussions are taking place behind
closed doors in the Citadel council chambers. It is expected that the Elves
will release a statement next week, but one spokesman for the white elves
claims that they are prepared to put aside their differences with the Drow
as long as the Dragonlord threat remains. A spokesman for the blue elves
claims that they have had evidence of the first decisive action of the
Dragonlords since they were released from the void nearly 6 months ago.
Durhamites in the marketplace on monday morning were surprised to see
a whole troop of dwarves march out from the Engineers guild. At the head
of the column was the head of the engineers guild. Behind him another dwarf
was carried naked, tied to a pole born by four other dwarves. As people
watched, the dwarf was pinned down to the flagstones and his beared shaved
off by the guild head in a dwarvish ritual of exile. The dwarf was then
tatooed with the rune for traitor and left to run naked and posessionless
from the city. The engineers guild issued a statement to the effect that
this was legitimate punishment for his crimes under Dwarven lore.
The red Guild is offering combat training for all its members under
the instruction of the pyroken Torloth and the warrior monk Alban. Attendance
is to be compulsory for red guild mages, and others may come along subject
Three dwarves were found dead on Thursday morning outside the south
gate of the city. They have not been identified as yet and the engineers
guild denies knowledge of them.
Furnock of Furd was outraged on Saturday morning when he woke to find
that every window in the guild house had been shattered. The blue guild
sent immediate apology on hearing it, and handed over two blue elf mages
who they claim were responsible for whatever punishment Furnock deemed
fit. The blue elves could be seen most of the rest of the week buried up
to their necks in the brown guild garden. many people see this as a sign
of the growing tension caused by the presence of so many extra elven mages
in the city.
The newly formed entertainers guild has announced itself to the city
on Monday in the marketplace with a music show. the guild, headed provisionally
by one Ifor the Sammite, is operating from the theatre of the Mystic Celebration
and has close ties with it. The guild is appealing for all public entertainers
to register with them, promising advertisement and more organised jobs.
The guild of astronomers have publised today the report of their 5 year
mission to probe the nature of the world. They have decided, by majority
opinion, that the world is flat, with a very slight curvature near the
Posters have been found advertising self defense classes run by one
Alban at a private address. Anyone interested should get in quick since
it is known he will be spending most of his time helping Torloth with the
red guild martial training. On Tuesday afternoon, a green elf was seen
standing on top of one of the buildings overlooking the Marketplace. With
a cry of "No! The fire! I burn!! Aieeeeeeee!!!" he leaped to
a watery grave in the marketplace below.
In a house just outside the city walls, friends of the Smith family
were horrified at what they found when they came round to visit. The entire
family, including 3 children, were found hung upside down from the cieling
with their throats and stomachs slit open. Written in the blood on the
floor was the message: "Feel the pain". A kidney was used to
dot the I. the church of Astalon are investigating.
The churches of Astalon and Ishmund payed a visit on Monday to the large
house in the South quarter of the city that had been rented by Mr. Frederick
Fortesque and the rest of the hobbits of Apple Pie. They found the house
deserted and the hobbits gone. However, they had left behind clear evidence
in the form of human remains that they had been responsible for most of
the dissappearances in the South quarter of the city over the last weeks.
A large cooking pot found in one room was mute testimony to the fate of
the unfortunates who had been kidnapped. Over the doorframe was written
the hobbits motto: "Good people, good food". Ishmundi authorities
claim they were acting on a tip off from a group of people who had escaped
from the hobbits clutches and would remain nameless for their own protection.
The hunt is now up for the hobbits. Anyone who knows of their current whereabouts
should report to the church of Astalon immediately.
Despite the routing of the hobbits there have been several more dissapearances
from the populace this week. There are now quite a few empty houses around
and authorities are worried about the population decrease.
A party of pyroken mages have been dispatched to the village of Piedon
this week to cleanse it of all trace of the so called "Purple death"
and raze the village to the ground.
Several small groups of undead have been reported moving through the
countryside to the East of the city. Moving west...
There was a break in at the grey guild last night. Apparently someone
or something broke through all the defensive wards and about 6 foot of
solid stonework to gain entry to Rhauls study. Rhaul himself was injured
trying to apprehend the intruder, who is belived to have taken a valuable
magical item before making good his escape. the grey guild would also like
anyone who has seen Corr, their night watchman, to come foreward as they
are very worried about him.
...colder now. The stone was so cold that space and time began/begin/will
begin to condense on it...

Report from Officer in charge, City watch, blue shift to Margrave Corrigan.
At sunrise this morning, a large group of greenskinned humanoid creatures,
presumably orcs and goblins, were seen proceeding around the outer ramparts
of Durholme. Their movements had not been noticed by any of our external
patrols and against all odds they seem to have avoided any of the Palatinate's
military forces. Estimated numbers currently stand in the tens of thousands
with a very conservative estimate being 20,000. The majority seem to have
been of a goblin nature with a few orc's and ogres at the heart of the
group. All seem greatly enraged and they would appear to be of a more organised
nature than has been previously noted with relation to these types of creatures.
As far as we can ascertain, no black figure has been seen with them, so
we do not believe that it is the groups that were previously seen in Andrast.
I have placed the city on full alert, and have arranged for the closure
of all city gates. I would ask that the militia levy be raised and that
all able persons are called to the walls. I feel that the city is about
to enter a period of siege. I am at your service.
May the Gods be with us.
Captain William Johnson.
The troubles seem to get worse and worse this week.
The temple of Astalon has been closed until further notice, following
an illness that seems to be affecting the occupants of the temple. They
are currently working out of the temple of Walkeen, though Mother Dennning
commented that they would be unable to afford the rents, charged by the
temple of Walkeen, for very long. The church of St. John is conducting
research into the illness.
And just to continue the depressing theme.
A joint statement has been released by the Elvish nations present in
the city of Durholme. They have announced that the Dragonlords have taken
the first direct action of the war. Last week they apparently smashed their
way into the Grey Guild in Durholme, acquired an item that has been described
as the "Rod of Control," and then left via the same way that
they had entered. The elves have also said that they will present a united
front against the Dragonlords and will not submit to their oppressive rule.
On a happier note Ruffles the Kender has been finally released. "The
Kender One" as he as been called by some, has been released after
6 months of imprisonment. A press statement from his lawyer stated,
"My client is happy to see that common sense has finally prevailed
in this case and he hopes the matter of the diminished responsibility of
kender in the eyes of the law will soon be dealt with by the noble council
of Durholme. He also wishes to thank those people who gave such great support
to him in his hour of need. I myself must give special praise to Kasper
Wintergulf, head of the White Guild. His evidence for the prosecution was
vital and I'm sure it aided in the dismissal of this case."
The church of Gedhrent are raising a mission to go to the village of
Ham, following the disaster of a mission led by Clifton Anvil, of the mercenaries
guild. They are looking for volunteers to aid them, especially any that
actually know or have any methods of killing demons.
News has reached Durholme that Will McEwan has escaped from the hands
of Stafford. No-one is currently sure of his location, though it is thought
that he is probably heading north trying to rejoin with his Celtic army.
On the subject of his army.
It would appear to currently be massing north of Newcroft as they await
news of his escape and they hope his return to them. As usual for Celts
they are getting restless and nobody is sure how long they will remain
either together or in a non-hostile state.
The blue guild as announced the miraculous discovery of a new spell
this week. With the unfortunate demise of the famous, or some say infamous,
mage Francois one of the guild apprentices was asked to clear his room.
The young man uncovered a book of research that had been under the bed.
This student took it to the head of research at the guild, one Tor Na'Do.
He immediately realised that Francois had made some groundbreaking discoveries,
though they were merely notes in the margin. Francois had managed to produce
a fly spell, but it seems that, ironically, he never knew he had achieved
it before his death. In honour of this achievement the blue guild have
named the spell in his remembrance, Francois' Fabulous Flying Spell, and
are erecting a statue in his honour in the lobby of the blue guild.
The theatre of the Mystic Celebration are doing a special production
this week. Following the death of the playwright Sol, they have staged
a play in his honour, one of those he had written. "The Doom of Aquadel"
has been described as a great tragedy play, describing the fall of the
Elven city, featuring the embitered and twisted villain, Kosith.
A new head of the entertainer's guild has already been appointed. By
popular acclaim the minstrel, Meg The Minstrel(TM), has taken charge. The
previous head has stated that he was happy to see such a fine musician
heading the guild and he has said he is quite happy to serve as her deputy,
managing the finances of the organisation .
Now to doings in Kitchens.
Recently a white mage was attacked in her own kitchen by an unknown
assailant. Heavily pregnant, she says she was rolling out some pastry,
when a thin man, with long, lanky, hair come through her back door and
brandished a large curved knife at her. She immediately flashed the suspect
and, while he was stumbling, summoned an Alkar to protect her. He made
a quick escape once he had recovered from the temporary blinding.
Following happenings in the Greedy Goblin last week, the city guard
were this week dispatched to clear out an area of the sewers under the
establishment. It is believed that the hobbits that were suspected of murder
had taken to the sewers and it is hoped that the problem will now have
been sorted. At least 10 hobbits have been captured already.
There is apparently a bit of a debacle between the red and grey guilds
this week, over possession of a spell. No-one can seem to establish exactly
what spell but both research departments are claiming that they should
have the rights to it. Grey would appear to be in possession on the spell
currently and may be set to release it to it's members.
Clifton Anvil, acting head of the Mercenaries Guild, looks set for demotion
this week, following the mission to Ham that ended in such disaster. Rumours
are that he will soon be demoted to the recently vacated position of head
A ghostly figure has been seen widely across the city again. the apparition
in question appears magical and the witchfinders say that they wish to
prosecute this case to it's full extent. (Probably means a burning then...
"Throw another illegal mage on the fire...")
As the new days light starts to filter across the sky on Wednesday morning
an unusual sight greets the residents of Durholme. Where the Mathemagician's
tower once stood there is now a low-lying giant white dome. Nobody noticed
the shift but it definitely has happened. Once again the Mathemagician's
tower has gone.

It was cold in the early morning, before the sun had risen. Cold and
damp with the promise of rain. The city guard huddled close to their torches
for warmth up on the walls. On both sides of the wall were lights. Durholme
on one side. The torches of the goblin horde on the other. Throughout the
night there had been periodic bouts of chanting, and the rumble of drums
from the army, then silence again. It was very unnerving. The guard seargant
just wished they'd get on with it and attack. That or troops would return
from New Durholme so they could give battle. Suddenly another cry from
the goblinoids. This time more of alarm or sudden anger. In their midst,
to the north where they were thickest and their leaders were camped, came
the sounds of a fight.
Probably just a brawl among goblins, thought the city guard. then there
were flashes of light from the Goblin camp, and explosions. More goblins
were joining in and the fight was spreading. The seargant called his superior
up from his desk inside the watchtower. Not a moment too soon, for at that
time thare was a great flash and a figure rose into the air above the goblin
horde, glowing white and mounted on an Alkar of great size. Beside this
figure was another, black and almost invisible in the night except when
it passed in fron of the blazing white one. From these figures came a stream
of elementals of all descriptions, which set about the goblin horde with
ferocity. Magics rained down on them from above and many of them fled in
fear and confusion.
But from the thickest part of the goblin horde a small figure could
be seen standing on a platter borne by giants or ogres or something. The
figure gestures and chants at the spiralling elementals, and the goblins
surrounding him take up the chant in an unknown tongue. The goblin shaman
gestures again, and the two figures fall back to earth, their elemental
steeds dispelled. The sounds of battle intensify, and some guardsmen think
they can just make out a force of men with flaming swords leaping into
the centre of the fray, though wether to aid or thwart the goblins none
can say. The fight continues for some minutes, with more spells flying
at the goblins from the centre of the press. Then there is one final terrific
explosion. The goblin shaman is thrown clean off his pedestal by the blast
and hundreds of greenskins are blasted with such force that fragments of
them fly over the city walls to rain on the houses within. Then there is
only the squeaking of confused goblins for a while. The silence. But though
the air is heavy, the rain still does not fall.
There was great commotion by the river yesterday, when fisherman Alfred
Moore caught his line on something big and heavy in the Wear. Onlookers
report that, when the line was reeled in, it bore, not a fish, but an iron
helmet, a sword, and a pair of boots, complete with spurs.
The goblin siege has made it difficult to get news in from outside the
city this week. However, the Ghedrenti expedition to Ham, with the support
of several Blue mages, Sorin the throrrite priest and several other people
who have lent their aid, set off early this week, using the river and the
cover of night to get past the goblins. No word has returned yet of their
The church of Astalon has moved back into its old quarters near the
courthouse after the hospitallers of StJohn finished their investigations.
Apparently the cause of the illness that has been afflicting them has ceased.
Also the church of Astalon has issued a warning to the general populace
that there is at least one, possibly two known Sordanites at large in the
city. They are advising people to lock their doors and be vigilant at all
times unil the felons are apprehended. Anyone seeing any suspicious activity,
particularly a lightly built person with many sores or boils and a curved
dagger, to contact the Astalonians directly.
Thirdly the church of Astalon has finally placed its report before the
council of churches on the New Durholme situation. This 100 page document
is currently being digested by the rest of the council of churches, but
rumour is that it suggests a peaceful settlement with the rebels would
be more favourable that a protracted siege, especially with the current
demand for more troops to defend the city at the moment.
The following message was found burned into the wall of one of the buildings
facing into the marketplace on Tuesday morning, in foot high letters:
"This city, which we have loved and served all our lives, has accused
us of treachery and betrayal. When we entered the service of Durholme we
swore an oath to serve and protect this city. Now, despite our warnings,
an army goes unchallenged on our borders. If you will not act to defend
yourselves, then we will remain true to honour, to you and to faith and
risk our lives to defend you. We will remain true to you though it cost
us our lives, even if you will not remain true to us. Ichabod and Isobel,
Keepers of the City Archives"
The kingdom of the 7 shires is currently investigating the death of
its ambassador following an incident in a bar last week. They are also
looking for a volunteer to take over the recently created post.
The Witchhunters have held a burning this week. The ex-white guild mage
Joseph Chandler has been found guilty of unlawful use of magic and of theft
of intellectual property of the white guild to whit several new spells
he had been working on before he left. The spells will be returned to the
guild who will distribute them among members.
More posters advertising self defence classes by the alleged "warrior-monk"
Alban have been seen about the city.
The Witchhunters are now investigating reports of demonic presence in
the Blue guild. Quite who started the rumour that "all blue mages
are Demons" is not known, but the investigations are being hampered
by the fact that so many blue mages have recently left to go to Ham...
A large quantity of custard has been stolen from a local confectioners
this week. Astalonian authorities say they have assigned one of their most
appropriate men to the case.
Tuesday. A group of goblins approach the city walls. Too small a group
to assault, but their shaman is there on his platter, though one arm is
in a sling. Just outside of bowshot two goblins come foreward with packages
while the rest jeer and shout abuse at the men on the walls. the goblins
place a pair of stakes in the ground. On them are set two heads, one human
seemingly, and the other hewn out of some kind of glass or crystal. The
goblins go back to their camp with cries of triumph. When they are gone,
a group of City Guard come out and take the heads up to the citadel. Then
the first drops of heavy rain begin to fall.
