Cantrip (Free with lore, 0 mana)

Light (White Cantrip)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Light!
Effect:  A beam of light emanates from the caster's hand, equivalent to a torch. Phys-rep: You can use a pen-torch.


First Level (1XP, 1 mana)

Detect Heat (White First)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  Instant
Activation Phrase:  Mass Detect Heat!
Effect:  Gives range and direction of any body of heat above the ambient temperature. Response: Any character in the area must say 'Ping!' loud enough for the caster to hear. Only the caster gains the results of this call IC.


Illumination (White First)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Illuminate!
Effect:  A beam of light emanates from the caster's hand, equivalent to a larger torch. Phys-rep: You can use a torch.


Detect Inanimate (White First)

Range:  30 feet radius
Duration:  Instant
Activation Phrase:  Mass Detect [item]!
Effect:  Reveals distance and direction of every item of the specified type. You can be as detailed as you like in your physical description of the item, bu cannot include non-physical attributes (e.g Dave's sword, Vivamortian holy symbol). Response: If you are carrying or near an item of that type say 'Ping!' loud enough for the caster to hear. Only the caster gains the results of this call IC.


Whisper (White First)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Whisper!
Effect:  Permits a whispered message to be transmitted silently. Note that this is one-way.


Second Level (2XP, 2 mana)

Talk to Animals (White Second)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Talk to Animals!
Effect:  Enables caster to converse with 1 animal within the limits of its intelligence. This should reveal details of what has happened in the area recently.


Recognise Nature of Creature (White Second)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  Instant
Activation Phrase:  Recognise Nature of Creature!
Effect:  Enables the caster to determine the current nature of a specific creature. The target responds “Ping! [Type of Creature]!” loudly enough for the caster to hear. For instance a human would respond “Ping! Human!”, an orc would “Ping! Orc!”, a zombie “Ping! Zombie!”, an imp would “Ping! Demon!”; non-corporeal entities will not ping! If your target is using disguise II, they will respond with the race they are disguised as.


Third Level (2XP, 3 mana)

Talk to Inanimate (White Third)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Talk to Inanimate!
Effect:  Allows the caster to converse with the item touched, which may include bodies of water or regions of air. Only the caster can hear the item speak.

If not previously sentient the item becomes temporarily capable of limitted intelligence and is generally co-operative to the caster, responding to simple questions. An item spoken to in this way has only a limitted perception of its surroundings (sight/sound), and a patchy memory of recent events. In Character it is well known that the information gained in this way is often incomplete and unreliable.

Either way the caster may demand the item reveals its powers and purpose.

Note - if you only want to look at the back of a lammy, you can cast this without seeking a ref.


Farsight (White Third)

Range:  Line of Sight
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Farsight!
Effect:  Casters vision increases tenfold. So detail can be easily seen from a distance, of things in line of sight.


Signal (White Third)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Signal!
Effect:  Caster creates an image of light and places it anywhere within thirty feet. This image must be a simple pictogram and may not contain words.


Imbue Weapon with Light (White Third)

Range:  Touch
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Imbue this [weapon] with Light!
Effect:  Adds RADIANT to the weapon's damage call for 5 minutes. If a second imbue weapon is cast on the same weapon the first imbue ends and the second takes over. This spell will cancel or be cancelled by any of the 'Fireblade' or 'Flamebow' spells.


Fourth Level (3XP, 4 mana)

Discern Immunities (White Fourth)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  Instant
Activation Phrase:  Discern Immunities (points at person)
Effect:  Enables the caster to determine the immunities a specific creature has. The target responds by listing all damage types they are completely immune to. Target should respond with “Immune to…” if they aren’t immune to anything then respond with “Immune to nothing.”


Talk to Sentient (White Fourth)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Talk to Sentient!
Effect:  Caster and target become able to communicate for 5 minutes despite any language barrier between them. This spell does not grant the target the ability to speak if it does not already possess it.


Fifth Level (3XP, 5 mana)

Announcement (White Fifth)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  24 Hours
Activation Phrase:  Announcement!
Effect:  Caster may leave a short (one or two sentence) message which anyone will hear on entering the area. This effect lasts for 24 hours. One area may only have one message left at any one time but Mages may leave multiple messages in multiple areas.


Project Image (White Fifth)

Range:  Line of Sight
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Project Image!
Effect:  A clearly insubstantial image of the caster is created at a point the caster can see (including by magical scrying). While the caster concentrates it can move, hear and speak(though not cast). If the caster's concentration is broken the spell expires.


Elbereth's Sweet Whispers (White Fifth)

Range:  Unlimited (Same plane only)
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Elbereth's Sweet Whispers, I speak to [Name]!
Effect:  Allows the caster to have a conversation with the named individual, who may respond freely, for five minutes, regardless of distance. The target individual is under no obligation to respond in any way, and if they do not desire to respond, the caster cannot hear what they say. The target individual must have previously been met by the caster, or the caster must hold an arcane link to them.



Embody Small Elemental (White Fifth)

Range:  Self
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Embody Small Light Elemental! TIME FREEZE!
Effect:  Summons a small Alkar to embody the caster, replacing them for the duration of the spell.

On casting ‘Time freeze’ should be called and the caster’s player should don the appropriate elemental costume (this spell cannot be cast without it to hand) then ‘Time in’ in the same pose and position the caster was in. For the duration of the spell, they play the elemental, acting under the mental control of the caster.

The elemental has the stats as per the ‘Elementalism rules’ document, effects on the caster are paused while the elemental is embodied and do not carry over to the elemental. Similarly, effects cast on the elemental end when it leaves. The caster cannot act or be targeted while the spell is in effect. When the elemental is destroyed or the duration expires, the caster should call ‘Time freeze’, remove the elemental costume, then ‘Time in’ as the caster in the same pose and position the elemental was in. All previous effects on the caster then resume.


Sixth Level (4XP, 6 mana)

Scrying (White Sixth)

Range:  Unlimited
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Let my vision leave my body and travel to the place of which I think'
Effect:  Caster may see what is going on (but not hear) in any place he designates. He must either know exactly where it is, or have been there. Scrying is only possible using the special crystal. Caster must spend one hour attuning to the stone before use. Areas magically hidden show as been hidden.


Protection from Light (Self) (White Sixth)

Range:  Self
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Protection from Light!
Effect:  Caster is immune to RADIANT damage and the effects of Light-based magic.


Imbue Area with Light (White Sixth)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  24 Hours
Activation Phrase:  Imbue this area with Light!
Effect:  The mage opens wide the portal in his focus, calling forth the raw energy of the elemental plane of Light. As this energy flows into the world, it infuses the area around the mage, making it more like the elemental plane. Light-based spells cast in this area receive double duration, contrary-wise Darkness-based spells suffer half-duration. This stacks with doubling from Elemental Elf bonuses. The mage must remain in the area, and must maintain the effect, although this does not require them to speak.

The player should, however, role-play maintaining the effect in some fashion. As soon as the mage leaves the area of stops maintaining the effect, it fades. While imbuing an area, a mage may only cast Light-based spells, or metamagic. If a second imbue area is cast the first disappears.

Light spells should be prefixed with Greater and Darkness spells with Lesser.


Seventh Level (4XP, 7 mana)

Embody Medium Elemental (White Seventh)

Range:  Self
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Embody Medium Light Elemental! TIME FREEZE!
Effect:  Summons a medium Alkar to embody the caster, replacing them for the duration of the spell.
On casting ‘Time freeze’ should be called and the caster’s player should don the appropriate elemental costume (this spell cannot be cast without it to hand) then ‘Time in’ in the same pose and position the caster was in. For the duration of the spell, they play the elemental, acting under the mental control of the caster. The elemental has the stats as per the ‘Elementalism rules’ document, effects on the caster are paused while the elemental is embodied and do not carry over to the elemental. Similarly, effects cast on the elemental end when it leaves. The caster cannot act or be targeted while the spell is in effect. Protection from Light (Other) (White Seventh)

Range:  Touch
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Protection from Light!
Effect:  Recipient is immune to RADIANT damage and the effects of Light-based magic.


With One Voice (White Seventh)

Range:  Unlimited
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  With One Voice, I speak to [Name]!
Effect:  This spell functions as Elbereth’s Sweet Whispers, though it may target any individual on any plane with the exception of Divine planes. Unlike Elbereth’s Sweet Whispers, audible verbal conversation is not required for this spell to function.


Eighth Level (5XP, 8 mana)

Comprehension (White Eighth)

Range:  30 feet
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Comprehension!
Effect:  Everyone within 30' of the caster begins to speak in a universally comprehensible language, this does not bestow the ability to speak on objects or people which cannot speak. Anything which is the subject of a "Talk to x" spell in this area is universally comprehensible also.


Ninth Level (5XP, 9 mana)

Embody Large Elemental (White Ninth)

Range:  Self
Duration:  5 Minutes
Activation Phrase:  Embody Large Light Elemental! TIME FREEZE!
Effect:  Summons a large Alkar to embody the caster, replacing them for the duration of the spell.
