Formal and Buffet Talks

Occasionally, there are talks organised by the SCR/MCR which take place either before or after Formal dinners.

The next talk is: Prof. Hatziargyriou – SCR Buffet – Wednesday 15th May 2013

We have a visiting fellow who has kindly agreed to give us a talk at the buffet lunch on 15th May. Nikos Hatziargyriou is Professor of Power Systems at the National Technical University of Athens. He is joining Durham University academics for the next few months as a cofund policy and enterprise fellow in the Institute of Advanced Study. His research interests include dispersed and renewable generation, dynamic security assessment, and application of artificial intelligence techniques to power systems.

Prof. Hatziargyriou is recognised as a world leader in his field, and particularly in the integration of distributed and renewable energy generation into power systems. He will work with Durham University academics to create a simulated version of an autonomic energy network which will give insights into the limits of this philosophy and what it will mean for investment and the energy market. This promises to be a very interesting talk in an informal setting where there will be opportunities to discuss issues raised with Professor Hatziargyriou and ask about his research career, at a time when the future of energy production and provision has the potential to affect us all.

The buffet lunch will be from the usual time of 1pm on 15th May and the talk will start at 1.45pm, all are welcome and booking is by contacting Van Mildert College reception before 11am on the day of the lunch.
