The Durham University Hill Walking Society is one of the largest and most active societies at Durham. We pride ourselves on having something to offer everyone, whether new to hill walking or an experienced mountaineer!
If you share our love for the great outdoors and the British fells, we're the right society for you! We're a great way to escape the Durham bubble, and offer opportunities for fell walking, running, mountaineering, and scrambling, alongside a number of training courses and potential qualifications.
DUHWS exists for everyone in the University (undergrad, postgrad, PhD or staff) who enjoys any aspect of mountaineering. However, we do require that you come prepared for a strenuous walk which will cover steep and often off-path terrain. You must also be properly equipped, but guidance on this can be found on our pictorial kit page.
Please make sure you consult our Crucial Guide and join the society through the DSU before signing up for a trip. We're a friendly bunch and we're always looking forward to meeting you soon!
If you have any good photos from one of our trips please upload them to the Facebook group.
