Why Josephine Butler is ABSOLUTELY the college to visit this term!

Introducing Josephine Butler’s very own Coffee Shop & Kitchen… JB’s!

Hi, I’m Jess!

I’m on Josephine Butler’s Executive Committee, and I’m the Services Officer for 2017/18, which means I’m in charge of JB’s (Butler’s very own Coffee Shop and Kitchen).  I have worked in JB’s since November of my first year – so coming up to two years now! I love the students I work with, and I’m passionate about making JBs a fantastic student service, for everyone (not just students at Butler) to enjoy.

JB’s is open to all students

Josephine Butler is currently the only completely self-catered college at Durham, so JB’s is a vital service when freshers and livers-in haven’t got the time to cook, don’t want to cook or have simply run out of food! During the week, our coffee shop is open during the day (11.30 pm – 5.00 pm) and our kitchen is open in the evening (5.00 pm – 9.00 pm), except Tuesdays and Thursdays.  At the weekend, the kitchen is open 12.00 pm – 9.00 pm, serving a wide range of burgers, pizzas, curries, pasta and our BRAND NEW platters, they are AMAZING!

But do not fear, you do not have to be from Butler to eat here!  Freshers – if you fancy a change from college food and returners – if you hate cooking, then please drop by! Our chicken nugget platter is quite simply the stuff of dreams, and everything is super affordable too!

Veggie and Vegan options

Also – if you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or have any other dietary requirements – please don’t dismiss JB’s.  We’ve got a wide range of veggie and vegan options.  The falafel wrap is a JB’s staple, try it – and you’ll understand the hype, I promise you.  Similarly, if you have any particular dietary requirements – please let any of our staff know and they’ll be able to guide you to suitable dishes.

Why not call in to see us

If you are part of a sports team or society and are planning a social – why not start in JB’s, have a tasty, (and inexpensive) meal, and then head down the hill having been well fed, ready for the night ahead!

If you’ve got any questions, or want to find out more – please drop me an email: jessica.a.lord@durham.ac.uk or follow us on Facebook and Instagram for menus & great food pics.

Hello! I'm Jess! I'm a second year undergraduate from Josephine Butler College, studying History. I love my degree because it's so wide-ranging, my modules vary from Japanese political culture - to a study of Robin Hood! I'm also really involved in college, I'm the newly elected Services Officer and I 'frepped' (fresher rep) during freshers week, last October! I love Durham (not just for its many coffee shops!) and choosing to study here has most definitely been the right decision.
