Whitewater Safety and Rescue Course

Lowri Davies (BCU Level 5 White Water & National Trainer for Freestyle, former European Freestyle Champion and international expedition paddler etc etc) of FlowFree coaching is joining us to run a WWSR course -- this is a hugely useful qualification and more importantly will teach you a huge range of vital skills for the moving water environment.

The total course cost will be £810, divided between all participants (working out at £135 for a full six participants). However, we will be offering subsidised places for people who work with us on club trips; if you're interested, please contact me (Max) directly.

Pre-season

Pre-season is held each year before 1st term. Its a week of different canoe club events designed to bring you back up to speed with paddling and catch up with friends after a summer of adventures.

The time table will be produced nearer the time (see Facebook group) detailing specifics but the week will likely include some polo, river race, flat water, barrage, river trip and socials. So theres something for everyone!

If you do not have accomodation during this period please let me know as in previous years people have been able to stay with other club members. You don't have to miss out!

ALPS 2k17

This summer, DUCC's taking it international!

We'll be spending just over two weeks living it up in the Alps, experiencing the delights of European rivers, and generally having an awesome time. The plan is to move around a number of locations to ensure as much fun as possible for as long as possible, paddling some beautiful rivers with clean water in the sun -- a rare experience for UK kayakers. Sign up now if you're interested!

We'll be taking a deposit (details TBA) towards the cost of the trip at the end of the term -- you will need to have paid this by the easter break if you wish to come.

Wednesday Barrage Session

If you feel like a break from revision or if exams are getting you down, come along to the weekly Barrage sessions. A blast down the whitewater course is great for stress relief!

We'll meet at the boathouse at 16:00 as usual. Remember to bring appropriate paddling clothes and a towel. I'm sure you know what to expect (anyone who doesn't, please speak to Molly before signing up).

Slalom session

Slalom canoeing on Lee valley white water course

End of Term Picnic

Our last event of the term -- we'll be heading off to Low Force (a waterfall on one of our local runs) for a picnic, bridge jumping, and maybe even some kayaking. Everyone's welcome to come -- bring some food for the picnic, a towel, and a change of clothes if you plan on getting wet, and meet at the boathouse at 10:00!

River trip

Sorry for the late notice, but there is going to be a relatively easy river trip on Friday. We\'ll meet at the boat house at 9 am and head off to a river. It will probably be the Tees (Abbey Rapids or the Racecourse) but if levels are high then Durham to Finchale is a likely option.

Remember to bring suitable paddling clothes (not cotton, specialist kit will be provided), a change of clothes for afterwards and a towel.
