Durham University is one of the country’s leading institutions, frequently listed as one of the top five universities in the country. It is home to over 17,000 students and fantastic modern facilities, in one of the most stunning cities in the country.
The city of Durham is home to the beautiful Durham Cathedral which, along with its neighbour the famous Durham Castle, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The university campus is spread out across the city, and yet nowhere is more than a half-hours walk away! Whilst the university has a student population of over 17,000, the city’s population is only around 43,000. As a result, the city caters very well to the student population. We have spared no expense in producing a Guide to Durham’s Cafés, and a Guide to Durham Lingo!
What really sets Durham apart from the rest is its Collegiate System – every student is assigned to one of 16 colleges. The social life of a Durham student is centred around their college, and each one has a different atmosphere. The college is also home to the student body, the Junior Common Room (JCR). This provides the colleges with a real sense of community – they are much more than halls of residence.
You can find much more information about the university on the main university website.
