David Goodhew

Director of Ministerial Practice

David Goodhew joined the staff of Cranmer Hall in 2008, as Director of Ministerial Practice. David acts as the ‘bridge’ between academic study and local church ministry and mission; overseeing the large placement programme and contributes to teaching church history, practical theology and a number of other courses. He is experienced both in local church leadership and academic life. Prior to Cranmer, David was Vicar of St Oswald’s Church, Fulford, York. Before York, David was Fellow and Chaplain of St Catharine’s College, Cambridge.

David has published widely in the fields of modern British church history and South African social and religious history. David edited the academic study, Church Growth in Britain, 1980 to the Present Day, published by Ashgate in June 2012 (see http://ashgate.com/isbn/9781409425762). In addition, along with Michael Volland and Andrew Roberts, David wrote  Fresh! An Introduction to Fresh Expressions of Church and Pioneer Ministry. He has edited a volume entitled Towards a Theology of Church Growth, published by Ashgate in 2015 (see http://ashgate.com/isbn/9781472414007). He is also editing a volume entitled Growth and Decline in the Anglican Communion, 1980 to the Present, to be published by Routledge in February 2017.

David oversees the work of a new research centre, the Centre for Church Growth Research. The Centre has been awarded a Leech Fellowship to study new churches in the North East of England

David comes originally from Bristol but has lived in many different parts of Britain and in South Africa. He is married to Lindsey, who is herself ordained and works as Associate Minister of St Nicholas Church, Durham. David and Lindsey have two rumbustious sons, Aidan and Benjamin. David loves fellwalking and singing and has an irrational attachment to West Ham United.
