Indexrandomised controlled trial

(RCT) A form of large-scale controlled experiment using double blinding and a random sample from the population of interest. In clinical medicine this is regarded as the 'gold standard' in terms of experimental forms, but there is little scope to perform RCTs in disciplines (such as software engineering) where individual participant skill-levels are involved in the treatment.
