A set of pictures from a half-day out on the Sella Massif.
The cable car at the Pordoi Pass [46 29 18 N, 11 48 40 E] (2242 m) saves walking up the massif (~2900 m)!
The Forcella Pordoi rifugio (2848 m) was barely around the corner from the cafe at the top of the cable car…
The massif is an odd moon-like landscape (well, except there’s no snow on the moon of course). There are walkers in both photos – look carefully!
Rifugio Boè [46 30 56 N, 11 49 28 E] (2873 m) – a convenient stopping point for ein Kaffee mit schnaps (although apparently the toilet facilities in this particular rifugio are a little “basic”).
Views of the imposing Val de Mesdi from a viewpoint just beyond rifugio Boè. There is a path up the scree valley but it looks extremely hard work and the final climb up onto the massif looked pretty nasty.
