Pictures from a quick visit to the North Yorkshire market town of Skipton (literally “sheep town” in Old English) on what turned out to be the day of their Waterway Festival.
Perhaps surprisingly given its relatively northerly location, Skipton lies on the Leeds-Liverpool canal. The large boat pool at the junction with the short Thanet canal is close to the centre of the town, making it a good location for a canal festival.
Several boats seemed to be dressed up with the theme of musicals.
A slightly unexpected stall, specialising in black pudding!
Pictures from the parish church.
What is thought to be an anchorite‘s cell. Anchorite would be sealed up in a cell, typically in a church, leaving just a window through which food and drink could be passed (and presumably a chamber pot!).
This appears to be a list of benefactors to the parish.
