Pictures from a final weekend away in early November in the small Yorkshire Dales town of Pateley Bridge.

Views from a walk along the Nidd downstream of Pateley Bridge.

(L) The Coldstones Cut is a huge, and fascinating public artwork overlooking (R) the working Coldstones quarry on Greenhow Hill, just west of Pateley.

Views of Upper Nidderdale. (L) From the beautifully sited churchyard at Middlesmoor. Although one of the Yorkshire dales, Nidderdale is not part of the national park, and has had to settle for the designation of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (“Any Other Nice Bit”), perhaps because its large reservoirs weren’t judged to be scenic enough.

(L) Rules for a police constable from the charming Nidderdale Museum. (R) The Black Sheep Brewery, Masham.
