Helmsley Castle
Pictures from a visit to Helmsley Castle (English Heritage), a return visit after about 20 years? (L) Crossing from the barbican into the main castle grounds. (R) Following surrender of Royalist defenders during the English Civil War, the castle was slighted and the East Tower (shown) partially destroyed by undermining (apparently with fat pigs being used to provide extra fuel for the fire underneath the tower!).
The old hall of the castle was converted into a surprisingly well-preserved Tudor mansion in the 16th C.
Bride Stones
The Bride stones (Bridestones?) are part of a short escarpment of millstone grit above Todmorden.
Cally Hall farm may not look much from the outside, but is no run-down hill farm. It has been for sale with a guide price of £1.4m!
