Pictures from a holiday in late July in the Yorkshire Dales market town of Leyburn.
(L) Looking back down into Whitfield Gill and (R) following Low Straights Lane back down to the starting point of Askrigg. The wide straight lane is characteristic of an “enclosure road“, as open moor land was enclosed to form “allotments”. It was only after starting the walk that we realised that we had done the same walk back in 2013!
(L) Gatehouse, (R) western side of central keep, and
Great hall of Middleham Castle.
(L) Catherine Parr oak and (R) bog garden at Thorp Perrow Aboretum. There is no real evidence that Catherine Parr planted said oak, but she did live nearby at Snape Castle at the right time!
Lower and upper falls of Aysgarth Falls.
