Only a small number of pictures from the weeks between summer holidays
Bushy mint plant from a modest cutting. Key take away from this year’s planting was the importance of properly sized pots – the plants simply stop growing when their roots fill the pot!
Door to St. Peter’s chapel at Auckland Castle. The chapel was created by John Cosin as part of a rebuilding of Auckland Castle. The woodwork is typical of the “Cosin” style.
(L) The quaint village of Hawthorn almost directly east of Durham. Most other villages and towns in the area are decidedly un-quaint 19th C colliery communities… (R) Lunch spot at Chourdon Point overlooking the sea after walking through Hawthorn Dene Nature Reserve (Durham Wildlife Trust).
Meadow full of interesting plants between Miners’ Wood (Woodland Trust) and the Lanchester Valley Railway Path (in the line of trees). The wood (and probably this meadow) was previously the site of Bearpark Colliery.
