Useful information about some of the stuff we get up to!

If you want to try new and exciting activities, enjoy the outdoors in County Durham and further afield, socialise and make new friends, give something back to the local community and have a lot of fun doing it then we are the society for you! Everyone is welcome, not just Scouts and Guides, all you need is a love of adventure!.

That might sound like a tall order to begin with, so I’ll explain a bit more...

What we get up to

We’re a fun loving society who’ll try just about anything our members want to do – if you can’t decide what you want to do while you’re at uni, or don’t know how you’re going to find the time to fit it all in, then look no further. We do a wide range of both outdoor and indoor events and socials, including: walking, camping, takeaway night, campfires, midsummer social on the beach, climbing, safari supper, blind drops, kayaking… and the list goes on! We also have regular socials at the pub quiz every Sunday night. We have nights away every term, including Summer Camp after exams.

As well as having fun for ourselves we do a lot of work with the Scouts and Guides in the local community. We run two large incident hike competitions-one for Explorers and Rangers, and the other for Scouts and Guides-and an indoor skills competition for Scouts. We also run events such as skills days and campfires and help out with events run by the local Guide and Scout counties and at the local Scout campsite.

To see what we’re up to this term, follow the link at the top to the term planner.

If you want to volunteer with a Scout or Guide group in Durham, our Liaisons Officer can put you in touch with a group. You can email them at liaisons@dusagg.org.uk.

What to Pack

If you're packing to come to Durham then here's a few useful things to get you started:

If you have a tent or a bivvy bag, they're always good things to have. If you like camping, have a look at our Zodiac challenge page. Don't worry if you forget, or don't have these things, we can usually rustle up spares!

Getting in Touch

So if any of this appeals to you or you want to find out more come along and meet us at the freshers fair or at one of our events or socials.

If you join our mailing list you will get (occaionally) interesting and eloquent emails from the President each week letting you know what's happening and how to get involved. To sign up just send an email to majordomo@durham.ac.uk with the words "subscribe ds-dusagg" (without quotation marks) in the body of the email. Or you can email our secretary at secretary.dusagg@gmail.com who will add you to the list.

We're also on Facebook - just search for DUSAGG in the search bar

If you’ve got any questions, want to know more, want to sign up for an event but don’t know how or even just want to randomly chat you can get in touch at president.dusagg@gmail.com
