Introduction

Useful information about some of what we get up to!

If you want to try new and exciting activities, enjoy the outdoors in County Durham and further afield, socialise and make new friends, give back something to the local community and have a lot of fun doing it then we are the society to you! And you don't have to have ever been a Scout or Guide to join.

That might sound like a tall order to begin with, so I’ll explain a bit more...

What We Get Up To

Mole!

We’re a fun loving society who’ll try just about anything our members want to do – if you can’t decide what you want to do while you’re at uni, or don’t know how you’re going to find the time to fit it all in, then look no further. We do a whole range of both outdoor and indoor events and socials, which have recently included: walking, camping, takeaway night, campfire, midsummer social on the beach, climbing, safari supper, blind drop, first aid course, kayaking… and the list goes on! We also have regular socials - every week on a Thursday lunchtime, and in the pub on occasional Sunday evenings. Once a term we go away for a weekend, or longer in the summer term.

In The Local Community

Mole!

As well as having fun for ourselves we do a lot of work with the Scouts and Guides in the local community. We run 2 large incident hike competitions – one for Explorers and Rangers, and the other for Scouts and Guides - and an indoor skills competition for Scouts. We also run events such as skills days and campfires and help out with events run by the local Guide and Scout counties and at the local Scout campsite.

To see what we’re up to this term follow the link on the home page to the term planner.

If you want to help out with a Scout or Guide group whilst you are in Durham, our Liaisons Officer can put you in touch with a group. You can email them at liaisons@dusagg.org.uk

What To Pack

If you're trying to pack to come to Durham then you might want some idea of useful things to bring. We suggest:

If you have a tent or a bivvy bag, they're always good things to have, although our Freshers Camp is actually indoors! If you like camping, have a look at our Zodiac challenge page. Don't worry if you forget, or don't have these things, we can usually rustle up spares!

Getting In Touch

So if any of this appeals to you or you want to find out more come along and meet us at the freshers fair or at one of our events or socials.

If you join our mailing list you will get interesting and eloguent (occasionally!) emails from me each week letting you know what is happening and how to get involved. To sign up just send an email to majordomo@durham.ac.uk with just the words "subscribe ds-dusagg" (without quotation marks) in the body of the email. Or you can email our secretary at secretary@dusagg.org.uk who will add you to the list.

We are also on facebook - just search for DUSAGG in the search bar

Our society phone number is 07521944606. The phone is used for all kinds of things, and will usually be taken to any event that we are running. As such, if you're heading to an event or social, and you're going to be late, or don't know where to go, you can text or ring the phone.

If you’ve got any questions, want to know more, want to sign up for an event but don’t know how or even just want to randomly chat you can email me at president@dusagg.org.uk
