Welcome to DUHWS
The Durham University Hill Walking Society is one of the largest and most active societies at Durham. We pride ourselves on having something to offer everyone, whether new to hill walking or an experienced mountaineer!
If you share our love for the great outdoors and the British fells, we're the right society for you! We're a great way to escape the Durham bubble, and offer opportunities for fell walking, running, mountaineering, and scrambling, alongside a number of training courses and potential qualifications.
Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, DUHWS is running differently to normal. Whilst we are doing everything we can to get out as much as possible (within the Government and University guidelines), however news, policies and guidelines are all changing very quickly. As a result, the best place to stay up-to-date with our plans is through the society Facebook group. This is where all updates to weekend walks, socials, qualification opportunities etc. will be posted.
In 2019/20
- We've been walking on 30 different days
- With 142 different routes
- We had 340 members
- We’ve walked more than 16,500km (roughly the distance from London to Melbourne, Australia)
- And climbed over 915,000 meters (more than twice the height of the orbit of the ISS)
